Time for Makerere to light its candles on top of the table

Two items concerning invention or innovation made exciting news last week, the first being the electric car, code named Kiira EV, tested with vast fanfare and media coverage, by the College of Engineering, Design Art and Technology.

The second less publicised event was of a sports bicycle manufactured by a group of youth in Rubaga division in Kampala.customers can also bestcflbul sign up to receive a free Energy Efficiency kit or enter an hourly drawing for Light Emitting Diode (LED) giveaways. (The way these young people spoke English showed they were not in the Makerere league.) The frame of the bicycle is made out of bamboo. The young people, after faring poorly in international competitions because the metallic bikes they rode were 'too heavy,' decided on bamboo to reduce the load.

The spirit of creating things, especially among young people of different levels of schooling, is alive, which is a good thing. But like the Bible tells us, it is worthless to light a candle and place it under a tin.
Not very many people know about the many great things that go on at the university or in Uganda at large because the media has reduced this country into a glorified political contest. Politics, especially the corrupt type (and scandal), makes the news.

But Makerere, for many years, has been the home of very many great brains like Professors Mamdani, and Kabalu Ssali, plus innovations and earth-shaking research in various fields ranging from medicine, to sociology. Unfortunately, they have not received the sort of publicity that the electric car has.

Instead we have been told of the salacious tales involving sex for marks, falling walls, prostitution, abortion and fights for wages and territory with the Business School.

The problem with Makerere is not one of poor media attention and positioning. It is that the university is old-fashioned in its operation and orientation. They simply teach and research and mind their own business.

It is important that the university reaches out to the community and shows what they have got. This can be done in two ways. First, researching and giving practical solutions to the problems that affect the society in their main occupation, like agriculture.

In a country that has one of the largest fresh water lakes in the world, and a river running through the middle, a great university should be selling feasible ideas to the government and the private sector about irrigation and delivery of fresh water to boost crop production independent of rain cycles and a healthy population.

Secondly, the university should challenge students with projects that change the lives of a given number of members of society and assess them in this area. For instance,it takes bestledlig to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. a law student should be tasked with educating a given number of laymen in basic aspects of the law regarding, land, succession and inheritance, labour etc. The lay men may then be evaluated to gauge the effectiveness of the student.

Others should teach people the importance of history and key events in national development, the role of the media and how to use it effectively. Or keeping simple books of accounts, saving, insurance, marketing and making wills.when new energy standards bestcflbulbs for lighting were announced, is beginning to take hold throughout the real estate industry Medicine, disease prevention,Using energy-efficient CFLs bestcflbulbsw and LED lighting helps to lower energy use and reduce cost. Throughout the day, SCEEP family planning, dieting and hygiene should be priority fields.

The same should be done for good farming methods and curbing post harvest losses. Above all, each one must be tasked to teach a specific number of illiterate people how to read and write the twenty six letters of the alphabet.

A student who has the ability to practically change the lives of people as an undergraduate is likely to be serious, empathetic and effective after attaining his degree certificate. That student has a physical feel of the society in which they will operate after their studies and will be more innovative and knowledgeable when dealing with others.

Pocket projector built for presentations

Pocket projector built for presentations
MY guess is that one day the hole used for a LED light on our mobiles will double as a pretty decent projector and probably a 3D one at that.

That day is some way off for mass-market smartphones, although Samsung has a projector in its Beam smartphone,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. but it has a rather puny six lumen output.

If you want a projector inside a mobile-sized device today, it will probably be a stand-alone unit such as Acer's C20 projector.

The Acer's footprint is about the same as an iPhone 4, although somewhat thicker.

The $349 gadget has a screen resolution of 854x480 pixels and throws a beam at 20 lumens.

It is designed for zapping up Powerpoint and video presentations on the go for a small (read not too far away) audience. In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.

Acer claims a maximum projected screen size of 146cmx82cm for the unit, but I found the practical limit about 10-20 per cent less than this and then only in a fully darkened room.

Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar.

End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.

And although there is a focus dial on the side of the unit, text was quite blurred when the unit was more than 1.5m from a wall, meaning the larger screen sizes at greater distances are OK for watching videos but not throwing up PowerPoint presentations.

The rechargeable battery is good for about an hour and the case has a hole tapped in the bottom for a tripod.

There's a speaker and jacks for AV in and audio out as well a micro USB port with a supplied adapter for reading a USB drive and a micro SD card slot.

It can read and display media files from either of these sources.

It has a VGA cable adapter that slips into the unit's IO port and there's a mini HDMI socket, but unfortunately Acer doesn't provide a mini HDMI cable,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment meaning you will have to pop another $40 or so for the cable.

$50 light bulbs aren't only option for consumers

$50 light bulbs aren't only option for consumers
Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Times-Union readers want to know: A friend sent an email that says we won't be able to buy regular light bulbs next year and that the energy-efficient bulbs will cost $50 apiece. Is this true? The Energy Independence and Security Act passed in December 2007 set new standards for how we get our light. The law says that bulbs must be between 25 percent to 30 percent more efficient, starting in 2012 with the 100-watt bulb, according to FactCheck.org. That means that a new bulb has to produce as much light as a 100-watt bulb, but only use a maximum of 72 watts to do it.

Now, some bulbs might be as expensive as $50, but you don't have to pay that much. You could, but there are various other options.

New LED bulbs, or light- emitting diodes, to replace the common 100-watt incandescent bulbs could go on sale next year for almost $50 each,While many consumers have switched from Led down light traditional filament light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, according to The Associated Press. While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment As what's happened with many other items, prices are expected to drop as more become available.

Other bulbs that meet the law's criteria are the halogen incandescent bulb and the compact fluorescent bulb,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. or CFL. And both are less expensive than the LEDs.

A two-pack of Philips 72-watt EcoVantage bulbs or a one-pack of Osram Sylvania 72-watt Super Saver, both halogen incandescent kinds, are listed online from $5 to $8. A 12-pack of the Philips brand from one retailer costs $46.99, making each bulb less than $4.

The CFL bulbs have become common. The 26- to 29-watt bulbs will produce about the same amount of light as a traditional 100-watt incandescent, according to General Electric, one of the manufacturers. A two-pack of GE's equivalent 100-watt compact CFL bulb sells online for $8.93 at Lowe's.

FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan fact-finding project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, quotes the Department of Energy as saying that even though the initial price of the more efficient bulbs is higher than the old kind, consumers will spend less each year to operate them: "Most CFLs pay for themselves with the energy they save in less than 9 months. Average consumers will spend about $4.80 to operate a traditional incandescent bulb for a year [electricity cost].The 250U actually had a slightly higher マジコンds average upload speed—.96Mbps up as compared to the U600's .94Mbps By comparison, average consumers will spend about $1 to operate an Energy Star LED bulb,In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  about $3.50 on a halogen incandescent bulb, and about $1.20 on an Energy Star CFL bulb." The new bulbs should last longer, the DOE says.

In addition to the 100-watt bulbs having to meet the new standards in 2012, the 75-watt bulbs will need to conform in 2013. The 60-watt -- the most commonly used -- and the 40-watt have until 2014.

FactCheck.org notes that stores can continue to sell their stock of the old incandescent bulbs until they run out.

A new hospital is opening up in our area this summer and News 5 wcyb was able to get a sneak preview of the facility. While most people Led strip light originally believed that LED lights were only appropriate for retail or night life applications, every day more and more American consumers are seeing that LED lights provide the earth-friendly retrofit The Johnston Memorial Hospital in Washington County,Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections. Virginia is set to open its doors on July 16.

Walking around the new Johnston Memorial Hospital today, it was hard to tell wether you were at a resort or a hospital. "We think it will be very conducive to healing and getting better," said CEO Sean McMurray. "It's very comfortable surroundings, all private rooms, large enough to accommodate families."

The new Johnston Memorial is a green facility and was built to achieve silver-level leadership in energy and environmental design certification from the U.In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards. S. Green Building Council. The project manager Dwayne Darlington talked about the effort made to stay green.

"We're recycling about 85 percent of all the construction waste on the project," Darlington said. "We put in different bins from block to wood to plastic, everything.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs."

Natural lighting is a big part of the design throughout the hospital, which is evident when you step into one of the spacious patient rooms. "All the facilities will be in the room with the patient,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment" explained COO Steven Givens. "The family members will have plenty of room. They'll have seating areas and a sleeping area for the families if they need that."

Everywhere you will go in the hospital, you will see that no detail has been missed. One of the important features here in the operating room is that everything hangs from the ceiling, including trays used during operation, which eliminates the need for carts and frees up space. Another neat feature is the LED lights which do not emit any heat and keep patients and doctors very cool.

Lim leads turnover of solar bottle bulb project

Lim leads turnover of solar bottle bulb project
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim led the turnover ceremonies of the “Solar Liwanag Iyong Mahalin” (SLIM) - a solar bottle bulb project for the residents of the Happyland, Tondo.

Present during the ceremony were Manila Electric Company (Meralco) Senior Assistant Vice President and Central Business Area Head Ferdinand O. Geluz and MyShelter Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Illac Diaz. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report.

Using common household materials and readily available chemicals, each home in Happyland will have the benefit of this alternative lighting technology using eco-friendly materials at no cost to the occupants.

The use of solar bulbs will also prevent the occurrence of accidents brought about by using candles or kerosene lamps.Nonetheless, the greater pricey manufacturer products ledonsale certainly are well around the job, seem great and may deliver very amazing cost savings.

Lim explained that, under the project,You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. each home will enjoy solar-generated electricity at no cost to the occupant.

With this in place, Lim said the residents can now do away with using candles or kerosene lamps which only poses danger and the possibility of causing fire.

The solar bottle bulb is made of a small sheet of galvanized iron and a 1.5 or 2-liter plastic bottle filled with a solution of water, salt and chlorine that gather and amplify sunlight.

Destratification and lighting create a more energy efficient warehouse and distribution center

Destratification and lighting create a more energy efficient warehouse and distribution center
knows its way around a warehouse. As experts in maintaining warehousing and distribution centers for its clients, WOW employees spend a majority of their time within the walls of these colossal metal structures making them well aware of the discomfort associated with fluctuating temperatures and stale air. Home-based in Appleton,While many consumers have switched from Led down light traditional filament light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, Wisconsin, WOW Logistics proposed a corporate green initiative to make its 25 public warehouses throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Idaho more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. With nearly 7 million sq ft of floor space, including ambient,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment refrigerated and freezer facilities, this green initiative meant finding a viable solution to aid in employee comfort and preserve the integrity of stored contents.

According to Matt Oswald, executive vice president, WOW’s green initiative is designed to “improve the work environment and boost productivity, while saving energy and helping the environment at the same time.”

Big Ass Fans knows its way around a warehouse, as well. Big Ass Fans are designed to produce energy-efficient cooling breezes throughout facilities during hot weather and circulate warm air when it’s cold outside.

“We have 25 locations, including our corporate office,” explains Jamie Wally, vice president of sales and marketing, WOW Logistics. “Twelve of those are operated as warehousing, storage and handling facilities. We also have build-to-suit lease properties. That 3G test in Grand Central further confirmed these results. Reception r4 販売 was low on both modems, but the U600 manage to squeak past the 250U We put the fans in 10 locations, one fan per 50,000 sq ft. We also use them in the coolers to get more consistent cooling.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. Two locations are just coolers. It’s important to make sure you get constant temperatures.”

WOW tested the air from floor to ceiling in colder months. “Our buildings average 45° to 50°,” says Wally. “When they tested, it was within 2°. Previously it was 15° to 18°. We knew we had savings when we first tested the fans.”

WOW is interested in being green. “We’re interested in saving money,” explains Wally.it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. “Big Ass Fans did a study of our facilities and said, based on our total temperature and utility costs, we could save 59% on our heating. The HVLS fans allowed us to reduce the smaller fans we had all over. We went building to building systematically and installed the fans. The fans were about a 1.7-year payback.”

In the initial phase to reduce energy costs and upgrade to more environmentally green warehouse and distribution centers, WOW replaced sodium and mercury vapor lighting with a energy-efficient fluorescent lighting system. “Most facilities had high-pressure sodium lighting or halo lighting,” explains Wally. North Barrington Lighting did an analysis and gave us our total utility costs for power. Now, every light is fluorescent and on a sensor so when you’re not using an area, the light goes dark. The light pops on and stays on for five minutes. Overall, we had a 1.2-year payback and went from 20 foot-candles of lighting to 30 foot-candles of lighting. It’s a better system. It’s a cleaner light with better visibility. We changed over every one of our facilities.”

Rush to produce energy-saving bulbs

Rush to produce energy-saving bulbs
Several local and foreign lighting equipment manufacturers are rushing to use the latest technologies for production to take advantage of Viet Nam's push for energy conservation.

Viet Nam-owned Dien Quang Lamp Joint-Stock Company, which has been highly successful in manufacturing energy-saving lights, especially the compact fluorescent light bulbs, is planning to produce light-emitting diode (LED) lamps for optimal power savings.

Pham Minh Thang, Dien Quang company's vice chairman and deputy general director, said they had reduced production on energy-inefficent lights,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. and now held a 65 per cent market share in the country.

The company plans to manufacture LED lamps in the market this year, thanks to technical supervision from the United Nations Development Programme's energy- efficient lighting project.

This year the company will introduce a collection of lamps using LED technology and the products will be sold to restricted consumers, such as luxurious hotels and apartments,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment due to the high cost.

Thang said that emitting diode lamps would be widely used in Europe by 2014. Several companies in Viet Nam have studied and begun producing and selling the light in the market.

"It will soon be commercialised in Viet Nam now," he said.

The company's output of power-saving products climbed from 30,000 products in 2006 to 10 million compact lights last year.

The US-backed Schreder Viet Nam, which produces light reflectors in the country, plans to expand their business in Viet Nam. Currently, the company produces 43,000 products every year.

Nguyen Khanh Binh, general director of the company, said the amount of product would increase when other factories were built in Viet Nam, adding the company also produced LED lights for public lighting.

FawooKidi Technology, the joint venture between locally-owned Kim Dinh Company and South Korean Fawoo Technology, began manufacturing LED lamps early last year.

Le Trong Dinh, chairman of the joint venture,While most people Led strip light originally believed that LED lights were only appropriate for retail or night life applications, every day more and more American consumers are seeing that LED lights provide the earth-friendly retrofit said the company manufactured more than 8,000 lamps using light-emitting diode technology a day.

FawooKidi on Thursday replaced 39 public lights with LED lights on HCM City's Thanh Thai Street, which became the first street in Viet Nam lighted with LED technology.

Dinh said besides the LED lamps on District 10's Thanh Thai Street, 10 more lamps will be installed soon on another street,it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. with the hopes of saving power for public lighting.

Recently, locally owned Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask JSC began producing lamps and decorative lights applying LED technology.

According to experts,Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections. using LED lights help consumers save up to between 30 to 90 per cent electricity if compared with other types of lamps.

The lifespan of this kind of light is 20 times longer than others. However, due to the high price, the light is most often used for advertising, high-ranking construction projects or public lighting.

Since the nation's energy conservation campaign on lighting began five years ago, government offices, companies and households have saved 4.5 billion kWh of electricity by using energy-efficient lighting.

However, according to Vu Minh Mao, head of the Viet Nam Lighting Association, every year the country can save at least 6.3 billion kWh in electricity from the lighting system.

Between 2006 and 2007, Electricity of Viet Nam provided 1 million compact lamps to households in 3,000 communes in the country's rural areas.

The amount of lights provided to the families increased to 5 million during the 2008 – 10 period—VNS

U.The particular demise with the incandescent bulb

U.The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs,S. Energy Crisis a Liberal Power Grab
As American families and businesses struggle with the increasing prices for energy and gasoline and a stagnant economy, there are many theories about how the United States has gotten to this point. But when we cut through all of the rhetoric, demagoguery and complicated explanations, the truth becomes simple: Ever since the United States government got involved in energy policy, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. we have had a problem. Democrats and liberal Republicans, acting at the behest of groups hiding behind environmental cover to push policies giving government more power, are directly responsible for our current situation. This is deliberate on the part of some, while others are simply dupes who have been used. Regardless of the motivations, if not stopped, continued pursuit of these policies will lead to the destruction of the United States as we know it.

It is no coincidence that U.S. oil production peaked in 1970, the year after President Richard Nixon signed the National Environmental Policy Act and the Environmental Protection Agency was established, just the beginning of a decade of laws that have made the United States the hardest place in the world to produce energy. When the federal government started taking over roles traditionally held by the states and expanding its reach into every corner of every economic activity in the country, those who love more government had the perfect proxy for justifying more power over the economy and over the way Americans live their lives. The entire Washington-based debate over energy is not really about energy. It’s about power—the coin of the realm in D.C.

Despite—or better yet because of—the fact that the 20th century was the American Century in large part due to our energy consumption, certain groups that are uncomfortable with U.This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings.S. economic, military and political power set out to cut off the fuel to our nation’s economic engine. An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. Those in politics who love more power and suffer from the fatal conceit that they alone should be able to dictate the future of the nation—rather than 300 million Americans acting in their own interest—found in the green groups the perfect justification for their obsession.

They have been very successful. By shutting off almost all of the government-owned lands and making it harder, more expensive and more time-consuming to produce energy, they have forced the U.S. to import well over half of the oil it consumes. President Obama and his friends in Congress tell us this is because we have no oil, and therefore we must transform our entire economy unilaterally and get used to living with less. Through the power of the state, they will tell us how much less, the kinds of lightbulbs to buy, the kinds of cars we can drive, and ultimately, where and how much we can drive. They must use the power of the state—they say—because scarcity of energy requires central planning. Many people see through their car an easy and comfy way to lightsale go to work, to travel etc. We are talking about transportation and nothing more. Facilities such as a good stereo sound system, climate control and a coffee mug holder are just some things to make driving life easier and much more fun.

Energy-efficient lights winning acceptance

Energy-efficient lights winning acceptance
With the impending phase-out of incandescent light bulbs on the horizon, have you been tempted to hoard your remaining old-style bulbs? If so,The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. you can stop worrying.

Design improvements to energy-efficient light bulbs and to light fixtures are making it easier for homeowners to fill their homes with plenty of illumination while maintaining their commitment to energy-efficiency.

The American Lighting Association says lights account for 25 percent of a homeowner’s electric bill. Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, all incandescent light bulbs in the United States must meet new energy-efficiency requirements established by the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA).

Changes to light bulbs will be phased in, starting with 100-watt bulbs, which must use 72 watts of energy or less while providing the same amount of brightness. Over the following three years, 40-, 60- and 75-watt light bulbs will be phased out and replaced by energy-efficient bulbs.

“People have already embraced [compact fluorescent light bulbs] to the point that in 2010, more CFL bulbs were sold than traditional incandescent bulbs,” said Joseph Rey-Barreau,print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection. an architect and lighting designer in Lexington, Ky. “In addition, there are already light bulbs on the market that look like traditional bulbs and are labeled halogen because they have a halogen component that makes them more energy efficient”

Mr. Rey-Barreau says customer complaints about CFL bulbs when they were first introduced have resulted in newly manufactured bulbs that are fully lit more quickly and offer light of a better color quality.

“Lighting designers are aware that while incandescent light bulbs came in one color, CFLs have several options from warm to neutral to cool colors that make a difference in how the light looks,” Mr. Rey-Barreau said. “Buyers of CFL bulbs should buy high-quality bulbs rather than an off-brand or a store brand and look for a bulb with 2,700K to 3,000K [Kelvin temperature], because those will be the closest to incandescent bulbs. In general, most people prefer warmer color temperatures in the living areas of their homes.”

Lighting designers say the introduction of standards for energy-efficient light bulbs has had the greatest impact in terms of technology rather than in the design of light fixtures, although some new designs have been introduced.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.

Susan Dickinson, a showroom manager at Dorman’s Lighting in Lutherville, Md., said the legislation has not had an impact on three-way light bulbs and chandelier light bulbs, but it has influenced dimmable lights and recessed lighting.

“Some people don’t like the shape of the CFL bulbs, so we are seeing some more fixtures that have frosted glass or up-lighting so that the bulbs don’t show,” said Ms. Dickinson. “Another option that we are seeing more and more of is LED bulbs, especially for recessed lighting. LED lighting is mostly used commercially,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. but now it is being used for desk lights and sometimes pendant lighting. LED bulbs are warmer in color than CFL bulbs, but they tend to be more expensive. To replace a typical 50-watt floodlight bulb for a recessed lighting fixture costs about $30 or $40.While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment”

5 of the world’s smartest light bulbs

5 of the world’s smartest light bulbs
The slogan for this year’s Lightfair trade show in Pennsylvania is “The future. Illuminated.” So what does the future of illumination look like? Well, some of the newest, smartest and most energy-efficient light bulbs are getting their debut this week — take a peek:

Sylvania Ultra A19

LED (for “light emitting diode”) is going mainstream, and Osram Sylvania has unveiled a new LED bulb designed to replace the old-fashioned and inefficient 100-watt incandescent lamp. The 14-watt Sylvania Ultra A19 prototype is dimmable like the old bulbs,The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light. but can last around 25 times longer. According to Osram Sylvania, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. the bulb will use about 86 per cent less energy than a traditional lamp.

Philips EnduraLED

Philips is also rolling out LEDs that resemble incandescents in look but not efficiency. It’s billing its Philips EnduraLED 17-watt bulb as “the world’s first LED replacement for the 75-watt incandescent bulb.” And the new Philips EnduraLED 12.5-watt bulb is the “first 60-watt equivalent to earn ENERGY STAR qualification.” Both are designed to last far longer and use much less energy than their incandescent counterparts.

Switch 100

San Jose-based Switch Lighting is coming out with a 100-watt equivalent LED bulb with a “self-cooling environment” on the inside. Switch revealed the technology last month while announcing the company’s launch.

In addition to being cool and energy efficient,LED with different different prices, the general highlighted the ledlightforyou and compare the price difference between the poor. Therefore, the procurement must be clear when they need to know what kind of brightness, so as to accurately position their products. the Switch bulbs are also designed with Cradle to Cradle principles in mind: every component can be reused, recycled or reclaimed rather than tossed into a landfill. “When the bulbs are returned, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. they could become part of a bicycle, or could be returned to the biosphere to become fertilizer,” says Bill McDonough, co-author of Cradle to Cradle explains.

Lemnis Lighting Pharox 400

Set to hit the market in the third quarter of this year, the Pharox 400 LED yields 400 lumens of light without the energy waste of incandescents or the mercury worries of CFLs (compact fluorescent bulbs), according to Lemnis Lighting. The company also aims to set its offering apart from the rest by selling it in a “retail-friendly” durable canister.

GE Energy Smart hybrids

Unveiled in late March, GE’s Energy Smart hybrid bulbs (pictured at top) are “three bulbs in one,” according to the company. An “instantly bright halogen capsule sits inside an energy-saving and long-lasting compact fluorescent swirl that’s contained in an incandescent-shaped glass bulb.” Why combine all three? It not only offers the “comfort” of an old-style incandescent look, but delivers instant-on lighting. As GE puts it,These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well. “The halogen element comes on instantly and turns off once the CFL comes to full brightness, thus preserving the energy efficiency of the bulb.”

The LED Appeal: reasons why this innovation is popular

The LED Appeal: reasons why this innovation is popular
There are several reasons why the LED technologies are being implemented at home. It is the new alternative to the past alternative. When Edison first created the light bulb, we redefined the industrial revolution. When LED technology was produced, a more earth friendly revolution is in store. When you visit an LED shop to buy some LED Strips or an LED lampe, it is necessary to know the causes why it is a great lighting method that you can appreciate.

Versatile: if you like far better Christmas or accent lights,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. then flexible LED streifen are the greatest option for indoor lights. LED comes in a number of wonderful colors. From cool and warm white light to reds, oranges, blues, greens, purples and other colors, you can locate the color that greatest suits your house. You will undoubtedly love RGB wasserfest LED streifen to accent your garden pathway or make your patio a whole lot a lot more fantastic. The colors can be changed depending on the color of the membrane in which the LED chip was injected upon. It does not need special filters so it is less of a mess.

Long life: Some manufacturers in the previous promise that their LED lights will last 100,000 hours. Nevertheless it would be safe to say that the lights can last on average, at 50,000 hours but it can also go upwards. Nevertheless, the light can last for a decade or so. That is a truly long wearing light. After its anticipated life, you will see that its brilliance will start to diminish right up until it fades. The cost truly pays off because it can very last for a really extended time. All you have to do is buy a high quality light that you can put into action to your house. From exterior to interior lights, if you choose LED, you know that will remain alive for a really long time.

Non poisonous: a regular bulb will contain an element called tungsten that is placed inside a filament. The interior of the bulb is also filled with a powdery substance. Some, if not all lights, can get broken and the chemicals can be exposed into the air and inhaled by people. Some bulbs also have mercury content. While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment The LED Lampe does not contain any harmful chemicals.

Durable: the LED is a solid mass. It does not have a hollow inner layer. Bulbs in the previous contain sensitive and easy to break components. If the filament will get damaged, the light will be busted. The light mechanism of the LED is injected into a solid membrane,The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light. creating it shock proof and very solid. Actually, if a car with an LED light crashed, chances are, the lights can be placed into a new car and it will nonetheless work properly. It is that longevity that can make the LED lampe and strip truly reliable.

Energy saving projects focus on measureable results

Energy saving projects focus on measureable results
Businesses throughout Connecticut are finding innovative ways to reduce their carbon footprint while saving money on energy expenditures. Many are taking advantage of incentives offered by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund — a Peter Staye, associate director of utilities at Wesleyan University in Middletown, explains an energy monitoring display to Anna Sears, a freshman.partnership between the state’s utility companies designed to help businesses, homeowners and government entities save energy — to implement greener technologies and encourage others to think more carefully about their own energy use.

From solar panels at Webster Bank to a culture change at Wesleyan University,However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. programs are showing measureable results. Here’s a look at a few:

Culture change

Since 2005, Wesleyan University has invested more than $6.5 million in a variety of measures on its 360-acre Middletown campus. The university began by focusing on “the traditional stuff” and now has moved into more innovative measures, said Peter Staye, Wesleyan’s associate director of utilities.

Lighting has been retrofitted with more energy-efficient options, occupancy sensors have been installed, and new management software automatically powers down computers and monitors during the night. The heating and cooling system in the Exley Science Center has been converted to an energy-efficient air volume system with computer-based temperature controls, and the Freeman Athletic Center now injects ozone into the water used by its laundry service, enabling the use of cold water for all laundry while cleaning more efficiently and fighting bacteria.

Through all its combined projects, Wesleyan has reduced energy use by about 22 percent since 2005, but the focus is now shifting to a more challenging initiative, but one with significantly greater potential for savings — changing the culture of energy use on campus.

“Not that long ago, energy was abundant and cheap. Now it’s neither, but there is still the feeling that everyone should have their own refrigerator and coffee machine and so on,” Staye said. Although those conveniences are still allowed, the school has mounted an effort to make students, staff and faculty more aware of the amount of energy they consume.

Wesleyan’s large dorms now have monitors that display information on how much energy is being used. Each month, all dorms compete with each other to achieve the greatest reductions, and they compete with themselves to achieve better numbers than the previous month. Regular reports track energy use in all campus buildings and a Sustainability Advisory Group comprised of students, faculty and staff is working to develop a campus-wide action plan and research additional measures for reducing the school’s impact on the environment.

Effecting culture change in the face of long-held habits and assumptions is “a long haul and we do encounter some resistance from time to time, but we try to take baby steps and never go back,” Staye said. “General concern for the environment is becoming more profound every day, and there is far more opportunity in changing our culture than in any other measures we could take.”

Solar panels

Waterbury-based Webster Bank has also entered the green revolution by installing solar panels on the roof of its New Britain office facility. The building houses 325 employees and includes back-office functions such as human resources and training as well as serving commercial banking customers.

The panels, which have been placed on one-third of the roof on the building’s south side, are expected to produce more than two million kilowatt hours of electricity over the next 25 years, according to Mark Johnson, assistant vice president and manager of corporate real estate. That’s enough energy to supply more than seven homes with electricity for 25 years and the carbon-reduction equivalent of taking more than 11 passenger vehicles off the road each year.

To help raise employees’ awareness of environmental issues, Webster has placed a video display in the building’s lobby showing real-time energy generation from the solar panels along with other information on energy savings.

The decision to go solar also meant putting a new roof on the building, and Webster used the opportunity to do some major recycling. The old roof was a ballasted system using small stones to hold the roofing components in place, so when the stones were removed, they were given to a local landscaper, Johnson said.

Energy conservation

The Massachusetts-based Stop & Shop grocery chain has begun taking steps to reduce energy at its 217 stores, including 93 in Connecticut, by installing energy-efficient lighting and new motors for its freezers.

The project, which is being rolled out as time and budgets allow, also enables the company to take advantage of utility rebates and reduce maintenance expenses, according to Mark Macomber, energy project manager for Ahold USA, Stop & Shop’s parent company.

In 2010, Stop & Shop retrofitted 20 Connecticut stores with LED track lighting throughout the facilities, and the lights will be installed in another 24 stores this year, resulting in a 40 percent reduction in energy use. Fluorescent lights in frozen food cases are also being replaced with LED lighting. Five Connecticut locations are slated to be completed this year, which will bring the total number of retrofittings to 46. Also by the end of 2011, 86 Connecticut stores will have new electronically-commutated motors in its freezers and walk-in coolers, cutting previous energy usage in half.

In addition, solar energy panels have been installed at eight Stop & Shop stores, including the one in Fairfield, three in Massachusetts and four in New Jersey, netting a 9 percent reduction in electricity use, Macomber said.

“We’re anxious to do more solar projects in the future, and also install LED lighting in our parking lots,” he said. “Right now, it’s quite expensive, so we’ll do that once the costs come down.”

Through programs supported by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund in partnership with Connecticut Light and Power, Stop and Shop expects to save nearly 30 million kilowatts and avoid more than 32 million pounds of carbon dioxide over the life of the measures. That’s enough to provide more than 3,500 homes with electricity for a year, according to figures provided by CL&P.

Let’s Make Loud Noise for all Sierra Leoneans, Cocorioko readers and Rev. Kabs Kanu

Let’s Make Loud Noise for all Sierra Leoneans, Cocorioko readers and Rev. Kabs Kanu
You thought I forgot about making LOUD NOISE for others and have moved on to other topics. Didn’t you? My last time out the attention was on Sierra Leone’s Distinguished Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sumana. I will never forget to point the sunbeam on Sierra Leoneans. Unless we draw attention to what others are doing to “REBRAND” Sierra Leone, no one else will feel joyful shining the spotlight on the nation’s accomplishments. So here I come ready to announce the new Let’s Make Loud Noise LMLN recipients.

Thousands of Sierra Leoneans are worthy of being praised. We are familiar with our shared stalemates and we know what is not working in our communities. Most of us are not secluded from the extreme challenges millions face every day. However, we cannot focus our energies only on exaggerating our frailties and shortcomings. Whenever possible, we must underline the efforts of those making a difference by helping Sierra Leone the envisioned new nation.

Today, let us take first send the LOUDEST SHOUT OUT to all Sierra Leoneans. All Sierra Leoneans living on the face of the earth deserves compliment. Leading up to Independence Day, the Red and Green divide became secondary to celebrating the nation’s fifty years of sovereignty. Even pro-SLPP newspapers, who did not want to cover the festivities, went silent. Life has thought many of us that, “Silence is golden”. We cannot be quiet about our inimitability. Sierra Leoneans are unique. We do not know all the traits that are distinctive ‘only’ to Sierra Leoneans. However, because Sierra Leone is your land of birth, this LOUD NOISE is more than ever for you.

Within the broad-group of Sierra Leoneans, there is a sub-group that I cannot overlook. These are the dedicated patrons of Cocorioko. Because of you, Cocorioko has the largest readership amongst Sierra Leone’s International Newspapers. You demand quality reporting from us that has become the culture of reporting from our keyboards. You share our stories with others and value our coverage on insightful issues. We do not have to mask our proclivity for President Ernest Bai Koroma and his APC led GoSL. Because of your undaunted support, Cocorioko will keep on towering to greater heights and ensure that you receive the most accurate news from Sierra Leone. Cheers to the millions of Cocorioko fans all around the world. You have helped to strengthen the newspaper’s voice on matters of national significance.

Someone is spending considerable time to make it all happen. I am sure that Sierra Leoneans everywhere, the Cocorioko readership and contributing writers will join me to make LOUD NOISE for Sierra Leone’s Plenipotentiary Minister, the Honorable Rev. Kabs Kanu. He spends time giving others their glees. We easily forget he is in the background and deserves to be in the spotlight too. Beyond the call of duty, Rev. Kanu has rendered his professional services to advance the course of Sierra Leone. Rev. Kanu is a pioneer of Sierra Leone Journalism on the global front. One must be a fool to think that his writings had nothing to do with propelling President Koroma to power. One would even be a bigger fool not to acknowledge his universal role in transforming the perception of Sierra Leone around the world today.

It’s working and thanks to Rev. Kanu. The new structure of the elevated Cocorioko, suggests that the first-fruits of the ‘REBRANDING’ efforts undertaken by the Honorable Rev. Kabs Kanu, are in. Sierra Leone’s Plenipotentiary Minister to the UN knows too well that “charity begins at home.” Just as Cocorioko is unmatched in bringing you the best about Sierra Leone, Sierra Leone is becoming unparalleled in terms of renewal and improvement in Sub-Saharan Africa. Let us shine the spotlight on Rev. Kanu for his patriotism and a lifetime of ‘breaking new grounds’ to give Mama Salone the best media coverage.

Those who have heard Rev. Kanu speak, would testify he has an unbelievable gentle and soothing voice. He is soft-spoken. However, the Right Rev.However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage. never minces his words. There is power in Rev. Kanu written and spoken words. His high standards of communication proved vital to my late father’s FBC Student Presidency in the early 70s. I recall that the day my father won the Student Union Presidency, the easterners brought out the N’goboi devil at FBC. There were jubilations in FBC for the entire weekend.

I heard about the ‘Chuk Press’ during my childhood. I thought at the time that Kabs was one of the guys choking and pressing on my dad. Finding out what Chuk Press was, and who Kabs is, made me laugh. Rev. Kanu at the time through his commentaries and writings helped my father maintained is unifying FBC SU Government. I recall that Sidique Dao was the VP of that government.

Sierra Leone’s Plenipotentiary Minister to the UN, Rev. Kabs Kanu has a proven record in unifying Sierra Leoneans around praiseworthy undertakings. This record spans the lifetime of many individuals practicing journalism today in and outside Sierra Leone. Rev. Kabs Kanu, gave the most extensive and inclusive coverage of Sierra Leone’s Golden Jubilee Independence Day celebrations. Over the years, Rev. Kanu has made invaluable contributions to Sierra Leone.

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push
By the end of this year, people will be able to buy an LED light bulb controllable from an Android device, part of Google's move into home automation.

At the Google I/O conference today, Google demonstrated how Android devices, including tablets and smartphones, can act as a hub for controlling multiple devices in the home, including lighting, appliances, thermostats, and music.

Google concocted a lighting demo system with Lighting Sciences Group, which developed an LED bulb that can talk to Android. It uses a new mesh network wireless protocol rather than Wi-Fi, ZigBee, or the other proprietary home automation protocols.

The hope is that software developers will create applications that use the home automation system of connected devices. The demo at Google I/O was of a person playing a shooting video game with the lights turning on and off as shots were fired, said Eric Holland, the director of electrical engineering at Lighting Sciences Group.

"Lighting is very visible and prevalent so it made sense for it to be first foray for the platform," Holland said. "Every one of the lights has a radio integrated inside the lamp so there's no additional equipment."

Many companies are building home automation systems built around connected objects, which give people a way to set up schedules around lighting and heating/cooling. People can also turn plugged-in items on and off from a central point, such as a tablet or small dashboard. However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage.
