Right at Home: Highlights from furniture fair

Right at Home: Highlights from furniture fair
With furnishings that run the gamut from edgy to elegant, ethnic to otherworldly, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair is a favorite of serious design lovers.

Highlights at this year's fair, which was held last week in New York:

_ Luminous Lighting

Several booths showed sculptural lighting that resembled clouds,You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. puffs of smoke, or some evocation of a heavenly bird's nest. Vancouver-based Molo created LED-lit, honeycombed, polyethylene pendants in various sizes that could be clustered and even dimmed to create a stormy atmosphere. Interesting fibers were spun into cotton-candy-like fixtures at Hive. At DCS Corp, washi paper formed a table lamp complete with a "downpour" made of thin brass rods. At Aqua Creations, there were single and multiple pleated silk disks that created lit mobiles resembling an extraterrestrial midnight garden, or a flotilla of sea urchins. All were an inspirational take on an ethereal shape that worked perfectly for lighting.

_ Cardboard's Cache

The lowly cardboard box has become the darling of eco-mindful designers looking for an intriguing new material. At Graypants, corrugated paper formed bulbous, textural pendent lampshades. At Molo, stiff unbleached Kraft paper was fanned into sturdy stools and loungers. The honeycomb layers of cardboard really amp up the textural element of these pieces. These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well. Most were left in their caramel color, which gave the furnishings a nice "patina." Graypants put Edison bulbs in their fixtures, which made them glow warmly; several other designers used the bulbs as well. Edisons are reproductions of early light bulbs; their carbon or tungsten filaments emit a pleasing, low-watt glow.

_ Wood Laminates

Plywood was everywhere at this year's show. Designers like its versatility, so there were lots of interesting plywood chairs, tables and bookshelves. Brooklyn designer April Hannah's collection of treehouse-inspired kids' furniture included an eco-friendly, maple- or walnut-veneer play table and chairs. Philadelphia University's Industrial Design students used bamboo plywood to craft an array of furnishings with architectural flair. Laurie Beckerman's Ionic Bench for Voos Furniture was a curvy swoop of Baltic birch plywood. Wisconsin-based Drift Studio printed subway maps and other graphic motifs on plywood panels that were bolted together into versatile cubes; modular storage was another trend seen throughout the show.

_ Industrial Chic

The chic edginess of industrial style continues to find favor with designers. In some hands, such as Chicago studio akmd, it had a mid-century vibe.Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore". At Barcelona-based Arxe, the materials were work-worn and weather-beaten, yet fabricated into tables and countertops that gave them a sophisticated second life. Arxe also showed refurbished military, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. workshop and studio light fixtures, and wonderfully patinated vintage metal stools and chairs. Lim leads turnover of solar bottle bulb project
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim led the turnover ceremonies of the “Solar Liwanag Iyong Mahalin” (SLIM) - a solar bottle bulb project for the residents of the Happyland, Tondo.

Present during the ceremony were Manila Electric Company (Meralco) Senior Assistant Vice President and Central Business Area Head Ferdinand O. Geluz and MyShelter Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Illac Diaz. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report.

Using common household materials and readily available chemicals, each home in Happyland will have the benefit of this alternative lighting technology using eco-friendly materials at no cost to the occupants.

The use of solar bulbs will also prevent the occurrence of accidents brought about by using candles or kerosene lamps.Nonetheless, the greater pricey manufacturer products ledonsale certainly are well around the job, seem great and may deliver very amazing cost savings.

Lim explained that, under the project,You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. each home will enjoy solar-generated electricity at no cost to the occupant.

With this in place, Lim said the residents can now do away with using candles or kerosene lamps which only poses danger and the possibility of causing fire.

The solar bottle bulb is made of a small sheet of galvanized iron and a 1.5 or 2-liter plastic bottle filled with a solution of water, salt and chlorine that gather and amplify sunlight.

When installed on roofs,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. the bottle filled with water solution acts as lens and provides tremendous amount of interior light, which is equivalent to 55 watts during daytime, without using electricity. According to MFSI, a solar bottle bulb can last up to five years before growing dim, in which case,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. The “Solar Liwanag Iyong Mahalin” (SLIM) - a solar bottle bulb project” is a concept of the Manila Electric Company.

The materials used in making solar bottles bulbs are very inexpensive and are readily available.

The eco-friendly implements can be easily installed using common household tools like wire cutters and hammers.

Given the proper equipment and training, the installation of the solar bottle bulb can be very easy and the homeowners themselves can assemble and install the bottles.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Review

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Review
The updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class is not just a giant leap forward for the German company and its customers, but an insight into the future of automotive engineering. With over 2000 new parts introduced, the mid-life facelift further improves the C-Class’s outstanding credentials.

Although the Mercedes-Benz S-Class still remains the model that showcases the best that the Germans have to offer, for the first time the new C-Class is featuring technologies previously unseen across the Mercedes stable.it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area.

There is good reason for that too, as the C-Class is the brand’s best selling model. Since its introduction in 1982, over 8.5 million examples have been sold, helped along by the current iteration, which has been a huge success.

You may not know it, but the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is not only outselling the likes of Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, but it’s one of the best selling medium cars in the country regardless of price. In April more people bought a C-Class than a Subaru Liberty, Honda Accord or even a Mazda6. Unbelievably, it was the second best selling medium car in the country, only beaten by the incomparable Toyota Camry which benefits from fleet sales. There must be something about the current generation C-Class that attracts buyers (the majority of which are private) at this scale.

To keep the C-Class up to date, Mercedes-Benz has taken the mid-life update very seriously. There are substantial changes to the interior with subtle yet elegant touches for the exterior. It now comes packed with safety features previously unseen in the C-Class and most interestingly, it supports in-car internet technology allowing you to browse the web using the car’s onboard computer.

The average punter will have a hard time spotting the exterior changes,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment such as the new aluminium bonnet (saving 10kg in weight) and re-profiled front and rear bumpers which the company says bring the updated model more inline with the brand’s new design idiom.

If you look closely you will spot the restyled headlights that encompass an appropriately C-shaped light within them. There is also the introduction of LED daytime running lights that help modernise the C-Class’s design characteristics.

The rear tailights gain a bunch of new LEDs which glow a unique shape at night, while the boot now sports chrome highlights and LED licence plate illumination.

Despite it’s many achievements, the success of the current-generation C-Class has a lot to do with the way it looks, so the face-lift has subtly modernised the design without taking away the elegance of the overall shape.

While the exterior might be subtle in its update,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. the interior is a significant improvement. Perhaps that should come as no surprise as one of the more common criticism of the outgoing C-Class was its interior. The pop-up screen and analogue instrument dials have been axed in favour of an integrated full-colour TFT screen and a tube-like instrument that displays through a multi-function screen in the instrument cluster.

The steering wheel has been updated to include 12 buttons for easy access to the car’s many features. It’s available in either three or four spoke versions, depending on variant and options.

The front seats are comfortable with or without the sport seats (AMG pack) and pack enough cushioning for those really long drives. The rear has enough room to fit two large adults comfortably but can easily accommodate three for the shorter trips.

Sitting inside the updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class, it’s hard not to think that it leaves its closest rival, the BMW 3 Series, feeling somewhat mediocre. Whilst the 3 Series’ interior is designed to be more sporty (and it certainly is), the new C-Class oozes very much what we’ve come to expect from Mercedes-Benz: unparalleled class.

In the standard colour combinations we found the cabin ambience to be a little too dark, which is typical of nearly all German manufacturers. However, if you tick the right boxes on the order form, a multi-colour interior will keep the fashion-concious minds at ease.

Destratification and lighting create a more energy efficient warehouse and distribution center

Destratification and lighting create a more energy efficient warehouse and distribution center
knows its way around a warehouse. As experts in maintaining warehousing and distribution centers for its clients, WOW employees spend a majority of their time within the walls of these colossal metal structures making them well aware of the discomfort associated with fluctuating temperatures and stale air. Home-based in Appleton,While many consumers have switched from Led down light traditional filament light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, Wisconsin, WOW Logistics proposed a corporate green initiative to make its 25 public warehouses throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Idaho more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. With nearly 7 million sq ft of floor space, including ambient,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment refrigerated and freezer facilities, this green initiative meant finding a viable solution to aid in employee comfort and preserve the integrity of stored contents.

According to Matt Oswald, executive vice president, WOW’s green initiative is designed to “improve the work environment and boost productivity, while saving energy and helping the environment at the same time.”

Big Ass Fans knows its way around a warehouse, as well. Big Ass Fans are designed to produce energy-efficient cooling breezes throughout facilities during hot weather and circulate warm air when it’s cold outside.

“We have 25 locations, including our corporate office,” explains Jamie Wally, vice president of sales and marketing, WOW Logistics. “Twelve of those are operated as warehousing, storage and handling facilities. We also have build-to-suit lease properties. That 3G test in Grand Central further confirmed these results. Reception r4 販売 was low on both modems, but the U600 manage to squeak past the 250U We put the fans in 10 locations, one fan per 50,000 sq ft. We also use them in the coolers to get more consistent cooling.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. Two locations are just coolers. It’s important to make sure you get constant temperatures.”

WOW tested the air from floor to ceiling in colder months. “Our buildings average 45° to 50°,” says Wally. “When they tested, it was within 2°. Previously it was 15° to 18°. We knew we had savings when we first tested the fans.”

WOW is interested in being green. “We’re interested in saving money,” explains Wally.it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. “Big Ass Fans did a study of our facilities and said, based on our total temperature and utility costs, we could save 59% on our heating. The HVLS fans allowed us to reduce the smaller fans we had all over. We went building to building systematically and installed the fans. The fans were about a 1.7-year payback.”

In the initial phase to reduce energy costs and upgrade to more environmentally green warehouse and distribution centers, WOW replaced sodium and mercury vapor lighting with a energy-efficient fluorescent lighting system. “Most facilities had high-pressure sodium lighting or halo lighting,” explains Wally. North Barrington Lighting did an analysis and gave us our total utility costs for power. Now, every light is fluorescent and on a sensor so when you’re not using an area, the light goes dark. The light pops on and stays on for five minutes. Overall, we had a 1.2-year payback and went from 20 foot-candles of lighting to 30 foot-candles of lighting. It’s a better system. It’s a cleaner light with better visibility. We changed over every one of our facilities.”

Rush to produce energy-saving bulbs

Rush to produce energy-saving bulbs
Several local and foreign lighting equipment manufacturers are rushing to use the latest technologies for production to take advantage of Viet Nam's push for energy conservation.

Viet Nam-owned Dien Quang Lamp Joint-Stock Company, which has been highly successful in manufacturing energy-saving lights, especially the compact fluorescent light bulbs, is planning to produce light-emitting diode (LED) lamps for optimal power savings.

Pham Minh Thang, Dien Quang company's vice chairman and deputy general director, said they had reduced production on energy-inefficent lights,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. and now held a 65 per cent market share in the country.

The company plans to manufacture LED lamps in the market this year, thanks to technical supervision from the United Nations Development Programme's energy- efficient lighting project.

This year the company will introduce a collection of lamps using LED technology and the products will be sold to restricted consumers, such as luxurious hotels and apartments,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment due to the high cost.

Thang said that emitting diode lamps would be widely used in Europe by 2014. Several companies in Viet Nam have studied and begun producing and selling the light in the market.

"It will soon be commercialised in Viet Nam now," he said.

The company's output of power-saving products climbed from 30,000 products in 2006 to 10 million compact lights last year.

The US-backed Schreder Viet Nam, which produces light reflectors in the country, plans to expand their business in Viet Nam. Currently, the company produces 43,000 products every year.

Nguyen Khanh Binh, general director of the company, said the amount of product would increase when other factories were built in Viet Nam, adding the company also produced LED lights for public lighting.

FawooKidi Technology, the joint venture between locally-owned Kim Dinh Company and South Korean Fawoo Technology, began manufacturing LED lamps early last year.

Le Trong Dinh, chairman of the joint venture,While most people Led strip light originally believed that LED lights were only appropriate for retail or night life applications, every day more and more American consumers are seeing that LED lights provide the earth-friendly retrofit said the company manufactured more than 8,000 lamps using light-emitting diode technology a day.

FawooKidi on Thursday replaced 39 public lights with LED lights on HCM City's Thanh Thai Street, which became the first street in Viet Nam lighted with LED technology.

Dinh said besides the LED lamps on District 10's Thanh Thai Street, 10 more lamps will be installed soon on another street,it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. with the hopes of saving power for public lighting.

Recently, locally owned Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask JSC began producing lamps and decorative lights applying LED technology.

According to experts,Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections. using LED lights help consumers save up to between 30 to 90 per cent electricity if compared with other types of lamps.

The lifespan of this kind of light is 20 times longer than others. However, due to the high price, the light is most often used for advertising, high-ranking construction projects or public lighting.

Since the nation's energy conservation campaign on lighting began five years ago, government offices, companies and households have saved 4.5 billion kWh of electricity by using energy-efficient lighting.

However, according to Vu Minh Mao, head of the Viet Nam Lighting Association, every year the country can save at least 6.3 billion kWh in electricity from the lighting system.

Between 2006 and 2007, Electricity of Viet Nam provided 1 million compact lamps to households in 3,000 communes in the country's rural areas.

The amount of lights provided to the families increased to 5 million during the 2008 – 10 period—VNS

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push
By the end of this year, people will be able to buy an LED light bulb controllable from an Android device, part of Google's move into home automation.

At the Google I/O conference today, Google demonstrated how Android devices, including tablets and smartphones, can act as a hub for controlling multiple devices in the home, including lighting, appliances, thermostats, and music.

Google concocted a lighting demo system with Lighting Sciences Group, which developed an LED bulb that can talk to Android. It uses a new mesh network wireless protocol rather than Wi-Fi, ZigBee, or the other proprietary home automation protocols.

The hope is that software developers will create applications that use the home automation system of connected devices. The demo at Google I/O was of a person playing a shooting video game with the lights turning on and off as shots were fired, said Eric Holland, the director of electrical engineering at Lighting Sciences Group.

"Lighting is very visible and prevalent so it made sense for it to be first foray for the platform," Holland said. "Every one of the lights has a radio integrated inside the lamp so there's no additional equipment."

Many companies are building home automation systems built around connected objects, which give people a way to set up schedules around lighting and heating/cooling. People can also turn plugged-in items on and off from a central point, such as a tablet or small dashboard. However, the marketing muscle of Philips led light lighting could give Philips LED business an advantage.

Having many devices communicating using ZigBee or Wi-Fi could create interference problems, one reason why a new protocol is being used, Holland said. Since it is open-source, Google and Lighting Sciences Group hope it will be adopted by other lighting and home automation companies. The networked bulbs will be available by the end of the year at the same cost as their general-purpose LEDs, for which prices range from under $20 to about $35 for a 60-watt equivalent.

Google enters a crowded field of home automation and consumer smart-grid companies that are trying to get a foothold for smart-home products.

Deal will cost policy holders dearly unless the group returns to profitability

Deal will cost policy holders dearly unless the group returns to profitability
THE LAST thing the taxpayer needs is another cash call to cover losses at a struggling financial services company as the upfront bill for the banks reaches €70 billion.

But losses at Quinn Insurance Limited (QIL), the largest Irish-owned insurer, mean all holders of general insurance policies such as motor and household cover will have to dig deep to help meet these losses.

The €706 million loss for 2009 and a €160 million loss for the first three months of 2010 will result in a €600 million call on the State’s Insurance Compensation Fund. Given that there is just €30 million in this fund, the losses are likely to lead to a levy on all non-life insurance policies in the State – possibly as high as 2 per cent.

QIL’s joint administrators, Michael McAteer and Paul McCann, of insolvency accountants at Grant Thornton in Dublin, said the first call on the fund,The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light. amounting to €180 million, will be made later this year.

The Central Bank whose concerns over the financial health of the company led to the High Court’s appointment of the administrators in March 2010 has said the need to access the fund was “not unexpected in light of the serious and persistent solvency problems at QIL which led to its administration”.

A review of the fund will be carried by the Central Bank over the coming weeks, after which it will make a recommendation to the Minister for Finance Michael Noonan on how the fund will need to be replenished. The Central Bank stressed that it worked closely with the administrators to limit the call on the fund.

A mitigating factor is the structure of the sale of the profitable parts of the beleaguered Cavan insurer, which is being taken over in a joint bid by State-owned Anglo Irish Bank and the Boston-based insurer Liberty Mutual.

QIL,The pole-less range starts with inflatable tent the two-person Velocity 200 and goes up to the Infinity 800 for eight people. which will remain in administration, will receive 25 per cent of any profits generated by Liberty Mutual Direct Insurance Company, the new company which is 51 per cent owned by Liberty and 49 per cent by Anglo and QIL. This will reduce the call on the fund and in turn general insurance policyholders across the industry.

If a deal had not taken place, the call on the fund would be substantially higher, the administrators said.

Anglo will try to pay off some of the Quinn family’s €2.88 billion in debts at the bank by taking the other 25 per cent share of the profits in that half of future spoils. The remaining 50 per cent of profits will go to Liberty.

The losses recorded in the 15 months to March 31st, 2010 – the date the joint administrators were appointed – have arisen primarily as a result of QIL’s disastrous foray in the UK market and particularly the loss-making professional indemnity insurance policies covering solicitors.

The UK insurance market has endured a torrid time over the financial crisis as increased claims and a higher incidence of fraud has led to spiralling losses for leanly priced companies. There is a higher incidence of claims in a recession and of legal actions against solicitors in a property downturn.

QIL had developed a solidly profitable business in Ireland by keeping costs down through the early settlement of claims and low overheads, but the company could not replicate this model successfully in the much larger UK market.

In a defensive statement earlier this week founder Seán Quinn, said the administrators had caused “enormous damage” to one of Ireland’s most successful companies in just 13 months. At the same time, residents are coming out of their promotional towels own hibernation mode and taking to the outdoors to hike, garden

In fact, as the losses show, the damage was done in the run-up to the administration. The trouble with insurance is that with the cost of badly priced policies, the losses take time to register.Often living in harmony with the water walking ball bears and other wildlife can be as simple as keeping food sources out of reach. About 92 per cent of losses on an insurance policy are incurred in their first year and they reduce gradually over time, though the so-called “long tail” risk remains for some time. The administrators raised prices on policies to stop the rot.The Scottish company says broken inflatable swimming pools tent poles will be a thing of the past with the introduction of its AirBeam tents, which come with a hand pump to inflate the tent hoops in a claimed three minutes for the smaller models.

Kitchen Lighting And Energy Saving Lights

Kitchen Lighting And Energy Saving Lights
In this energy conscious world, it is important to look at energy saving kitchen lighting, especially in those areas that require a house to have a percentage of this lighting. Some of the most efficient lighting is the fluorescent, which has now also been designed to replace the incandescent bulb. The rate of saving on electricity is around 80 percent with the new compact units.

Although more expensive to purchase than the older incandescent light, it uses far less power to run.

The compact fluorescent light is more commonly used in homes as it can fit into the socket of the old incandescent bulb. It is energy efficient and may last longer than the old bulbs which is also a saving. Another energy saving light is the LED light which has the ability to last around ten times longer than the compact fluorescent. They are quite hardy as they are built solid and do not contain mercury.

Outdoor lighting comes of age

A trend toward creating “outdoor rooms” has dramatically increased lighting options for homeowners who want to extend their time outside.

Most indoor lighting fixtures — chandeliers, pendant lights, table lamps — now have a counterpart designed for patios or decks.

“We have seen outdoor lights absolutely replicating indoor designs,”
“Outdoor lighting is a mood setter."It has become almost a cliché to say that optical fibers are the cornerstone led light of the modern information age," said Badding. "These long, thin fibers, which are three times as thick as a human hair, can transmit more than a terabyte -- the equivalent of 250 DVDs -- of information per second. Still, there always are ways to improve on existing technology." It can make or break a design just like it can indoors.CALLS have been made to turn off the lights at one of dstti Oxford's busiest junctions, after the traffic ran more smoothly when they failed.”

The abundance of products lets you make outdoor spaces more functional, said Rich Young of Outdoor Living Brands in Richmond,The lights, which change colour, are part Led light of the continuing overhaul of the centre. Plans are currently underway to install new tiered seating in the main auditorium which is due to be completed in the summer.   Va. “It allows families to extend the square footage of their home,” he said. “With the right light, you can extend the evening for dining or reading or other activities outdoors.”
