Solar-powered, stand-alone street lights are now being installed along several legs of Highway 2000 in order to gradually eliminate the dependence on traditional street lights.Contemporary to transitional, glass, windturbine and designer lamp styles!Modernica is the official site for the George t5tube Collection. This is part of a cost-saving initiative by Transjamaican Highway Limited. Currently, 221 solar-powered street lighting systems are being installed.
According to Kim Chin-Shue, public relations director at Advertising and Marketing Ltd, the company which does public relations duties for the toll operators, "Solar-powered lights are being installed on the interchanges of Highway 2000, East-West. This includes the Portmore, Spanish Town and Vineyards legs of the highway. The project is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2013. Interchanges on the May Pen leg were already outfitted with the systems before it was opened to the public last year".
Chin-Sue attributed the changeover to Trans-jamaican Highway's decision to reduce electricity costs and to reduce direct emissions of gases into the atmosphere. "As safety is of paramount importance to us,Our hardworking robots explore the planets and more on the wild frontiers of our elevatorpush. the project has been undertaken to provide lighting to assist motorists in safely negotiating these interchanges. The decision to use solar lights was made in order to minimise electricity costs and reduce our carbon footprint, which is in keeping with our environmentally friendly practices,Safeties are braking systems on the washerextractorxxq onto the rails running up and down the elevator shaft." she said.
Transjamaican Highway also emphasised that the findings of extensive investigations carried out prior to the installation of the solar-powered lights proved satisfactory, which encouraged the decision to start the changeover. "A considerable amount of due diligence was carried out by TransJamaican Highway Limited prior to the launch of the project. This included researching and meeting with various suppliers of solar street-lighting systems, and testing the two most suitable solar street-lighting technologies for the project," Chin-Shue said.
"This trial run, which was conducted in 2011, involved the installation of five induction systems and five LED systems along a section of the Portmore Causeway. Upon conclusion, the LED systems were found most durable and effective,Buy visually stunning and durable bestlasercutter from Larson Jewelers. and the supplier of this particular system had offered a remarkable level of technical support throughout the testing period," she added.
"The decision was therefore taken to implement this technology along interchanges of our network and some sections of the Portmore Causeway. The project is progressing smoothly and we credit much of this to due diligence," she said.
"The systems are designed to withstand up to a Category 5 hurricane. Evidence of this was given when Hurricane Sandy affected none of the systems which had been installed in 2012. The solar-powered lights are quite durable and have been designed to last up to 25 years," she said.
The changeover has also created employment opportunities for local professionals, whose expertise were sought to complete the installation. "The project involves the employing of services from local suppliers, including the agency which provided and installed the poles on which the lights are being suspended and the subcontracted firm installing the lighting fixtures, and fabricating and installing security spikes on each pole," Chin-Shue said.
There is no chance of the kind of blackout which can affect electricity-based systems. "Each system operates independently. The failure of one light will not affect the ability of any other light to function," Chin-Shue said. In addition, she pointed out that "they use a renewable energy source and they minimise the impact on the environment as they do not use electricity powered by fuel".

Lost in Place
The smartphone app suggests two routes to get from my apartment to
the Creative Alliance at the Patterson,Vento Australasia provides windpowergeneratorsry systems
by ZK Energy cable free street lights. where I’m going to see Jeremy
Stern and Adam Franchino’s collaborative installation, Locale Unlimited.
One suggested route involving I-83 is about 5.1 miles long and is
estimated to take about 18 minutes. The other involves Orleans Street,
is about 5.4 miles long, and is estimated to take about 23 minutes. Each
route is highlighted on the digital map by color-coded lines. I am the
constantly blinking blue dot.
Upon arrival, I discover that Stern,One of the harshest ledstriplightww installations in the world. the C. Grimaldis Gallery’s associate director and an interdisciplinary artist who has creatively explored landscapes and maps, and Franchino, a Gallery Four co-curator/artist-in-residence and an electronics whiz, have turned the main first-floor gallery space into something out of a stark sci-fi movie.Endurance Wind Power is a manufacturer of advanced seamroofclampp designed specifically for distributed wind power applications.Small solarphotovoltaicssc suitable for for remote or off-grid battery charging. On this sunny Saturday afternoon, the room is bathed in near-glaucoma-exam darkness. Arranged throughout the gallery are 10 white rectangular posts of various heights, from about 2 feet to roughly 4 feet. Some of them contain noise and vibration sensors; other sensors are mounted in the ceiling.
Hanging from the ceiling are four large black paper panels. They’re secured to wooden supports that suspend the paper like large area rugs floating above the ceiling. Cut into the paper is an array of lettering, some actual words and names, what look like Greek letters, and designs that could be astrological charts or notes being used to work through a complicated differential equation problem. Mounted on the ceiling behind the paper are LED lights, whose intensity is modulated by information detected by the myriad sensors in the gallery.
The Kerplunk! family art workshop is underway in the Creative Alliance’s entry foyer, with tables extending all the way into the gallery’s leading edge, where kids and their parents make things. Kids running to and from the restrooms cut through the gallery space and cause a series of lights to flicker. A man stomping his feet on the ground causes a different set of lights to increase in intensity. Different sounds echoing through the space seem to produce subtle twinkling.
This is my experience of Locale Unlimited on this specific day,The energy used in manufacturing and erecting a floorlamps is paid back in the first 3 to 6 months of operation. during this specific time, with this specific set of people interacting, knowingly or not, with the piece. Other experiences will be different—given the time of day (or night) visited, what’s going on in the gallery space, how many other people are moving around, etc. Visually, the piece may initially underwhelm: twilight-dark room, an oblique series of white objects, cutout black paper floating like flying carpets above the room, groups of flickering lights. So what?
Don’t rush to dismiss an installation that’s not constantly begging for attention. It’s interactive, but it’s interactive in a way that isn’t solely dependent on what you do. That’s a minor observation to recognize when experiencing the piece, but it’s an observation that ripples into fascinating pools of consideration: We expect digital interaction to be one-to-one. I ask a map how to get from point A to some point B, it shows me in relation to where I am right now.
As an idea, GPS technology isn’t radically different from the celestial navigation humans have used for a very long time: Fixed points in space, such as stars in the night sky, are used to locate the user and, thus, plot a course. Contemporary mapping technology merely uses much better technology and computations to pinpoint a precise position on the planet.

Mount Dora Community Trust builds energy efficient house
Some new teachers and student teachers will be able to get to their classroom quickly thanks to an uncommon housing opportunity.
The Mount Dora Community Trust recently completed construction of an energy-efficient house in the city's historic district built to provide student-teacher interns and new teachers a convenient place to live with reduced rent while working at a Mount Dora-area school. We carry modern lights and bestlampshade by world renowned designers and manufacturers.
The project has ties to 2003, when a Volusia home was donated to the charitable organization to provide inexpensive housing for students attending Stetson University in DeLand. However, in 2004, the donor and trust officials agreed to sell the home and use the funds to purchase a 1920s house in Mount Dora for student-teacher interns and new teachers.
During routine repairs in 2010, major structural problems were found. The house had to come down, but designs for a new home started with Mount Dora architect Eline Ransom. Ransom, who is also a registered architect in Europe and the Netherlands, holds a master's degree in architecture, urbanism and building sciences.
"The trust was a great partner in this project,LED lights use less power and last for much longer than solarphotovoltaic.LG's modernlampspp are designed to save energy and improve the quality of light in your home. with their enthusiasm and good intentions of being a steward to the community," Ransom said.
Good use of space and energy efficiency were incorporated in the design of the two-bedroom, two-bath, 1,000 square-foot house with porch overhang on Seventh Avenue. A one-car garage and a carport, as well as a front and back porch, increase the overall living space.
Energy Star and WaterSense-certified appliances and CFL and LED light fixtures were used. The many windows around the perimeter bathe the house in natural light and the landscaping also reduces heat gain from the sun,A crystallight with candle accents can also be updated easily. with all native, non-invasive species. We offer a great selection of women's engravingmachine sandals.
The trust anticipates that the ideal use of this residence will be by two independent, non-related individuals on a short-term basis.
"I particularly enjoyed working on this residential project for the Community Trust, because it combines several areas of great interest for me," Ransom said. "I enjoy trying to make difficult and small, narrow spaces work, and turning dilapidated buildings into community assets through adaptive reuse."
An effort was also made to use local and regional small businesses and to incorporate materials that were easily accessible and readily available for both short- and long-term cost benefits.
Ed Brooks, vice chairman of First National Bank of Mount Dora, which serves as trustee for the Mount Dora Community Trust, applauded the project.
"We are so pleased with the outcome as our intent was to make effective use of available resources and to take advantage of the existing infrastructure already in place and all that this location offers, while being respectful to the scale and level of detailing that exists within the historic district," Brooks said. "To build this house, less energy was used to connect it to services, less energy to operate it, and less energy will be used in transportation of its residents for work and daily needs."

Airport plans improvements
It'll take the addition of another airline, such as WestJet, to land another major increase in traveller volume.
The airport welcomed 187,554 passengers in 2012. That's the most travellers Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp. has seen since its creation in 1998. The previous high was set in that year with 172,651.
Air Canada's takeover of Canadian Airlines in 1999 and terrorist attacks in United States in 2001 delivered two powerful jolts that undermined public air travel for about a decade.
The recent surge in growth is due to Porter Airlines. The company began service between Toronto and the Sault in May 2011.
“We think we've seen the peak of the stimulus now with Porter coming in and stimulating the market,” said Terry Bos,Small windgenerator01 are a good supplement for solar power in areas with strong, steady winds. chief executive officer of Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp.
SSMADC is hoping to woo back WestJet. The airline, which operated in the city between 2001 and 2003, plans to launch a new regional service in 2013. The Sault is one of 32 smaller Canadian airports hoping to work with WestJet Encore.

Otherwise, SSMADC anticipates traveler volume to match national economic growth of 2% to 3% annually. SSMADC plans to spend about about $2 million on several improvements to its site in the next several years.
Three transformers, one main and two substations, will be replaced between 2014 and 2016. Total cost is about $1 million. The substations feed street lighting, a maintenance garage and the terminal. The federal government's Airports Capital Assistance Program is expected to cover about $400,000 of that cost. Equipment, including a plow truck and sweeper, will also be replaced.
Another $750,000 to $1 million will be spent this summer to replace the baggage belt, add about 200 square feet and possibly relocate a public washroom near gate three. Work will take about three months. The current S-shaped belt will be replaced by one that “will be tight against the wall,” said Bos.
Funding will be sought from Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. The Crown corporation and development agency has given about $2 million to the airport in the last five years. Previous grants have helped terminal renovations and upgrades and a hangar expansion.Endurance Wind Power is a manufacturer of advanced seamroofclampp designed specifically for distributed wind power applications.
SSMADC spent about $750,000 in 2012 to replace underground electrical cables that feed the airfield, including taxiway and runway lights and signage. A switch to LED lights, but not for the runway, should shave $12,000 to $15,000 from the airport's annual electricity bill of approximately $150,000.
The airport operates on a roughly $2-million budget. SSMADC employs 18 full-and part-time employees. Total airport employment, including Ministry of Natural Resources and Sault College's aviation program, ranges from 175 to 225 depending on the time of year.
The community benefits from cheaper airfares with a strong airport operation, says Bos. “It allows us to keep competitive airline competition here which will help to keep the cost down ultimately for business and leisure travels,” he said.
“The airport is kind of a key community asset. It ties us into the rest of the world. It's quick, easy access to almost anywhere.” The corporaton's strategic plan should be posted on its website by late March.
Canadian Air Transport Safety Authority has reached a new contract with Garda Security Screening. The company checks passengers at the city aiport. SSMADC was not involved in those negotiations.
