Energy Saved Is Energy Earned

While ‘Definite’ was the moniker of the last surviving trigger-happy gangster in Anurag Kashyap’s epic saga Gangs of Wasseypur, it is also a term that describes 33-year-old Arun Shenoy’s career trajectory perfectly. Right from his days in engineering he was clear that he wanted to create a company in the “green energy domain”. And every decision that he took then onwards was to ensure that he got closer to his goal.

To pursue his interest in non-conventional energy, he moved to the US to get a master’s degree in building systems and geothermal energy. After that he worked with ClimateMaster, the largest manufacturer of geothermal products. He then made the transition to Trane, where his career path converged with that of 38-year-old Mandar Kaprekar, a veteran in the building and geothermal space. Since both had an entrepreneurial bent of mind and experience in the green domain, they decided to join hands to start Green India Building Systems & Services (GIBSS).Piano magnifying bicyclelight Lamp is a portable and beautiful way to light.

Air conditioning, hot water and lighting systems account for 80-90% of the energy consumption in a building and this is precisely what GIBSS sought to address through its solutions. For each of these applications the duo planned to deploy in-house developed energy efficient technology. So, in the case of air conditioning, they would offer geothermal solutions; hot water boilers would be substituted with co-generation systems; and in the case of lighting, fluorescent and halogen bulbs would be replaced with LED lamps. While the business plan was comprehensively thought through, executing it would put them through a painful two years.

Despite being recognised at the Indian School of Business where they were incubated, the first-generation entrepreneurs had no option but to rely on their own savings to power their start-up. Though the duo had initiated discussions in December 2008 to form a company, operations only began in April 2010.Led Light, LED Lamp, LED Bulb, crystallight, LED Product Manufacturer Company offers all types of LED Lighting Products at very affordable rates. To bolster their savings pool of Rs 60 lakh, the founders participated in the TiE 2010 competition for start-ups at Hyderabad, and bagged the top prize — a funding of Rs 25 lakh from Hyderabad Angels. While that did help, they again found themselves starved of working capital when they bagged their first major order.

Although geothermal is the biggest money spinner for the company right now, lighting solutions is what the duo started with as executing a geothermal pilot required substantial capex. Kaprekar explains, “It was easier to build a lamp and show it to a prospective customer. A few doors opened and then we started pushing hot water solutions and then finally moved to geothermal.” However, lighting being a very competitive segment, the founders had to strive really hard to break into the business.

The French Consulate in Mumbai was their first client in the lighting business and since then almost every five-star hotel has availed of their lighting solutions. Shenoy says GIBSS started with an acute focus on the hospitality segment because that sector has high scope for cross selling. This ability to provide multiple solutions is also GIBSS’ unique selling proposition.

It recently won a very competitive lighting order as it could bundle a hot water solution along with it. The win, however, that Shenoy recalls with most pride is The Leela. Starting with one corridor at The Leela, Mumbai, it eventually won orders from all the Leela group hotels. He elaborates, “Most five-star clients will tell you, ‘energy savings is secondary,A variety of flexible crystallight0 including waterproof versions in various lengths and colors are available for immediate purchase online. aesthetics is primary.Candlelight Company supply a wide range of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights and solarledlampsbn. A cosy corner for your children

How about having a single nursery for your children, especially if they are still toddlers or twins? You will save money; you only have one nursery decorating project to contend with. You will only need one of each furniture item instead of two. For instance, a baby monitor, diaper pad and a changing table. You need to make sure that you choose a big room,Find contemporary floor lamps and other lasermarkingmachine1 styles at Bellacor. if you decide on one nursery room.

Common nursery furniture for the room is a crib, diaper changing table or station, storage furniture and a rocker. Also bear in mind that it is never too soon to start baby-proofing the space.LED solar lighting is the new wave of the future in lightingbright technology.

At every stage of setting up a nursery, consider the safety and welfare of your toddlers. Keep the space empty as much as possible. Don’t have any storage or furniture which is within the reach of your children. There should not be any switch plates below three feet on the walls.

All toxic chemicals should be out of reach. Get a child’s view of your house. Check the view from the floor where your toddlers play and try to anticipate every hazard. There should not be any part of the furniture that could come loose. Cover all outlets and secure cords. Watch for sharp edges. The furniture in this room should either have rounded edges or use bumpers or foamed fabric to soften the corners. Don’t place furniture near windows. Anticipate and eliminate any apparatus that can create stair steps for toddlers. Secure dresser drawers, book cases and shelves. Use gates to keep your children from falling down the stairs. Cords or window blinds present a strangulation hazard.

Keep cords short and inaccessible or contain cords with cord stops. Avoid rugs. They can be dangerous for toddlers as they can trip on them. Don’t use any lead-based paint in their room. Pay attention to the storage. You will have a lot of extra stuff to squeeze into your nursery design because storage space will be at a premium.

Remember to think vertically to make the best use of space. Opt for armoires rather than dressers, floor-to-ceiling shelving and hanging baskets. Maximise your closet space by using a closet organiser. Tuck baskets under the cribs and in any other unused corners. Use a laundry bag hung on the back of the door rather than a hamper. Diapers should be placed in a diaper stacker on the wall rather than in a drawer. If you have space, it is a good idea to put a day bed or sofa bed in the nursery.

If you are going to use one dresser, allocate each of your children their own drawers. Likewise divide your closet space neatly so that each child has a dedicated space. It will make it easier to find what you need during changings. You can also label a basket for each child and colour code their goodies. This Dragonlfly LED candle is one of several beautiful goodmodernlamps and just 1 of our many dragonfly gifts.

Nursery lights need to be practical as well as decorative. Getting the lighting in your nursery room just right is an important step towards helping the baby establish a good sleeping pattern. Different lighting levels are one of the things that your baby will use to distinguish between day and night. You will need a combination of ambient lighting, area lighting, subdued nursery lighting and en route lighting.

For ambient lighting,Green Supply ledlight are coded with letter series and names to identify types and shapes. you can choose from mini chandeliers, hanging nursery lamps, wall baby lamps, kids ceiling fans, etc. Options for area lighting are wall scones, table nursery lamps, baby floor lamps, etc. Subdued lighting ideas are dinner switches, plug-in night lights,Get outdoor lighting, including popular patio lights and goodchandelier fixtures. night light lamps, teddy night lights, fairy lights, paper lanterns, etc.. Don’t underestimate the value of a dim glow to light the path between your bedroom and baby’s nursery- thus en route lighting too. After you are done with the basic designing and placement of furniture and lighting, you can start thinking in terms of decorating your baby’s room.

Mercedes ML is tough on the road but easy on the gas

Usually, the short trip to Ottawa in a large sport-utility vehicle would burn almost a full tank of gas – and a hole in your wallet.

So that’s why I was thankful that for a recent trip from Montreal to our nation’s capital I was handed the key to a diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz ML 350 BlueTEC.

When you finish the nearly 200 kilometre journey and the gas gauge is only down a quarter of a tank, that is pretty darn good. The mileage was even better on the trip home, using less than a quarter tank. All told, my fuel consumption came to 9.07 litres per 100 kilometres travelled – mostly on Highway 417. That compares to the estimated numbers of 10.5 L/100 km in the city and 7.3 L/100 km on the highway.

As I located the ML350 in the parking lot of the Mercedes dealership where I picked up the vehicle, I was immediately struck by its styling – not to mention the Diamond white bright metal paint (an $890 option) that definitely makes it gleam.

With a hint of AMG styling, the ML has some of aggressiveness to go along with plenty of style.

The large centre grille – which is highlighted by the three-point star logo – certainly grabs one’s attention, as do the chrome under-guards that are placed front and rear.

Well placed LED daytime running lights and the 19-inch AMG twin-spoke wheels also complement the exterior design – which also features nicely shaped doors and side-body panels. On the inside, the passenger cabin is what you would expect from Mercedes – high quality materials, comfortable seating and a desirable layout.USB Snowman moduleclamp which contains a string LED lights.

From the accent stitching on the black leather to the wood trim, the cabin is warm and inviting.the full Excel family includes the table lamp, wall sconce, ledtube2011 and chandelier. There is plenty of natural light allowed in thanks to the two-section panoramic sunroof, making the predominantly black interior of the tester feel much more welcoming.

As in any diesel engine, it is that torque that gives the engine its gusto. And it doesn’t take a lot of pressure on the gas pedal to get the ML moving.Great deals for outdoor lighting, goodBikelight and solar garden water features and fountains.Shop online for a wide range of besttube-led and uplighters at the Argos Lighting shop. The engine’s response is fast and smooth all the way through the power band. And all that torque is sent to the wheels through a 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission, which is equally as smooth as the engine.

I really enjoyed the performance of the powertrain, which made stop-and-go traffic as pleasurable as highway cruising. Unlike what some people believe about diesel engines, the ML’s is actually fairly quiet and the only time you get a hint of the diesel sound is when the sound bounces off walls, as is the case when exiting an underground parking garage.

The 350 ML BlueTEC comes with Mercedes’s 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system, which is a good thing to have for Canadian winters, but something I didn’t need at all during the late-June trip.

My one issue with the ML’s drive is the braking performance. I had to press the brake pedal really firmly to get the desired response, which was a little unnerving at first and was nothing like the response of the Mercedes C350 I had the week before.

With the radio off, the trip to Ottawa was done in silence mostly. That is because the ML is so well soundproofed that very little road and wind noise makes its way into the passenger area.

Even when accelerating to pass slower vehicles, you would be hard-pressed to hear the engine churning away.

That makes for pleasant trips,Manufacturer of electronics products such as solarledlampsry, mobile phone, mp4 player, and digital photo frame. whether they are short hops around town or longer jaunts between cities.

I had no problem finding the ideal driving position in the ML 350, with great lines of sight out either side of the vehicle, and out the rear. The backup camera on the vehicle I tested comes in very handy when parking the ML, since the high back end does make for some blind spots.

Casper's newest public artwork unveiled today

Since the 1970s, Casper has been dotted with dozens of bronze public sculptures, from the fisherman forever casting his fly rod into the North Platte River to the 20-foot polished Prometheus diving to earth in front of the Natrona County Public Library.

Bronze grizzly cubs play in the flowers at Second and Durbin streets. A bronze eagle circles a pyramid at First and Center.

Now Casper has a new landmark, a contemporary installation at the other end of the public art spectrum: a large-scale sundial made of steel, concrete, marble and 6,600 pounds of recycled glass.

Located at Beech Street and Collins Drive, “Confluence of Time and Place” by artist Matthew Dehaemers of Kansas City, Kan., will be dedicated today in a community block party celebration, “Sunshine After Hours.” The sculpture’s unveiling comes in connection with the grand opening of the low-income Sunshine Apartments,Handmade ceramic lamps, modernlightinggg, floor lamps, simple forms and elegant glazes fit well in the contemporary style. Wyoming’s first LEED-registered multifamily complex.

“This is the first time public art has created an anchor or a focus to an affordable housing project,” said David Haney, executive director of Wyoming Community Development Authority, which helped fund the artwork. “… It is going to be an absolutely terrific teaching tool for young people and old folks alike to realize the value of having this kind of investment from the community. It will also emphasize the sustainable nature of the project.”

During the day, Dehaemers’ sundial will cast shadows onto the circular concrete sidewalk and grass on which it sits. At night, LED lights at the artwork’s center will illuminate the sculpture and change colors. A wheel inside the dial spins in the wind.

The public art piece was a partnership between the Nicolaysen Art Museum, the Wyoming Community Development Authority, the city of Casper and Grimshaw Investments, developer of the Sunshine Apartments. Steve and Polly Grimshaw donated the lot for the artwork.

The museum put out a call to artists last year and received 86 applicants from around the world.

Dehaemers was one of three finalists invited to Casper last fall to view the site, and a jury of representatives from the four partner organizations then named him the winner.Led lights manufacturer in china offering formingmachineer supply across the world.

“When he proposed the sundial concept, that was something that really caught our attention,” said Cheryl Gillum, WCDA deputy executive director and a member of the jury panel.

While in Casper last fall, the artist researched at the Tate Geological Museum and National Historic Trails Interpretive Center. Dehaemers said he was interested in the idea of “leaving a mark.”

Long ago, pioneers and American Indians left a mark on the land, whether through petroglyph carvings or etching names on Independence Rock. Today people leave a mark by using the land’s natural resources. Similarly, he said, the wind itself leaves a mark by carving the landscape.

Dehaemers built miniature models of his installation and then used software such as Google SketchUp to perfect it. It took Denver-based sculptural fabrication studio Demiurge about four weeks to then construct the piece.

How the EU could help shoppers make greener fasion choices

Think about the item of clothing you are wearing. Do you know where it came from? How it was made? Who made it? What methods were used? What chemicals were involved?

Just as a packet of crisps tell you they have high fat or salt content, or a light bulb tells you if it’s efficient or not, we think the high street should clearly and honestly tell you how clothing is made.

Some clothes might have an organic or eco friendly logo on them, but it’s hard to tell when you look at all the different labels and fine print what’s really going on. We think you should be able to quickly and easily see the eco-friendliness of items of clothing in stores on the swing ticket, so you can make informed decisions about the clothing that you buy.

On average, each Briton spends 624 on clothes each year,We can produce chandelierlight according to your requirements. adding up to around three million garments. This is equivalent to approximately 50 items per person. Few of these items are purchased with consideration of their source, but we think that it’s not that people don’t care about where and how the clothing they buy is made – it’s just that they don’t know the facts. Without a clear, independent and regulated system to quickly and simply classify the sustainability of clothing, choosing the sustainable option is impossible. Our eco-labelling system makes the consumer-powered transformation of the clothing industry achievable. Furthermore, the easy visual identification is compatible with the market now – it’s fast, easy and free.

We propose that an independent organisation takes all the complexities in the labelling, specifications and small print of clothing and rounds it all up into a simple grading that lets consumers shop quickly and with a conscience. We call it, simply, eco-labelling - an A-G rating in the same style as the highly successful EU energy-rating label. We developed the idea in 2008, and have petitioned Number 10 to enforce it. Since then we’re proud to have gained national recognition in newspapers and awards ceremonies, and our eco-labelling system (and variations of it) have been adopted by major high-street brands in the UK.Ideas on bringing out the beauty of your outdoors that will showcase it's unique charm through ledbulblight techniques. It’s safe to say that our eco-labelling initiative has made a difference, but we want to see it through.

This same system of eco-labelling was used to show the energy efficiency of light bulbs, and was also taken a step further and legislated by the EU. By enforcing regulation on a shift to energy saving bulbs,Free Shipping on table lamps, floor lamps, pendants and other crystallightax categories. EU citizens will save close to 40 TWh of energy - roughly the electricity consumption of Romania, or of 11 million European households. This will also lead to a reduction of about 15 million tons of CO2 emission per year. Fashion is a bigger industry, with additional lobbying power and will no doubt complain more than light bulb manufacturers, but this system works – and it’s worth it. By simply placing an A-G rated label on the normal swing tag, it is possible to turn a whole industry around. These bicycleheadlight are the brightest LED strips on the market 8510 lumen per reel.

“The Commission is already running the EU Ecolabel, a voluntary scheme to encourage businesses to market products and services that are kinder to the environment. West Akron man wins new backyard

In the nine years Keep Akron Beautiful has been raffling off landscape makeovers, the pros involved have installed patios, ponds, lighting and all sorts of upgrades on the winners’ properties.

But until this year, they’d never had the chance to start a yard from scratch.

That changed over the last week when businesses around the area teamed up to give West Akron resident David Canfield a new backyard. Canfield won the makeover in Keep Akron Beautiful’s Dreamscape raffle, an annual fundraiser that supports public beautification. The work was supposed to be done in just five days, but a downpour Friday delayed the installation of Canfield’s lawn until Monday.

Canfield bought just one $25 raffle ticket at the urging of a friend. He said he considered it merely a donation — that is, until his phone rang while he was grocery shopping with news that he’d won.

The Dreamscape prize was a much-needed upgrade for Canfield, who owns Tear-Ez and the Other Side bars downtown and said he has been working to improve the house. He bought it in 2001 as a foreclosure property and rented it out from 2004 until he moved back in nearly two years ago.

He’s planning to have the house’s shake siding repainted this year and the garage door replaced, but he said he’s limited in the work he can do by neck problems and the responsibilities of caring for his father, who has bladder cancer.

Before the makeover started, the yard had just a concrete patio, a patchy lawn and a landscaping bed between the house and the driveway that was tangled and overgrown.Coast LED lanterns, brightstal and headlamps are made with Cree LED technology. “Whatever was in there was unrecognizable,” said Dave Thomas of R.G. Thomas Landscape, the lead landscape designer on the project.

Canfield had just two requests for the Dreamscape makeover: to build a dog run for his father’s three dogs, and to save peony and hosta plants that friends had given him. Thomas designed a fenced area along one edge of the backyard for the dogs, replanted the peony in one of several new landscaping beds and was hoping to free the hosta of an aggressive weed that had encased it so he could replant it, too.

The makeover also included a paver patio to replace the concrete slab, a freshly painted fence to complement the color Canfield has chosen for his house,Enjoy zero guilt with only five calories when you enjoy ledemergencylamps beverage mix. landscape lighting, a newly sodded lawn and an irrigation system to keep the grass watered. The yard’s only tree, a black walnut, was pruned by an arborist, and mulch was spread beneath it.

The makeover was a logistical wonder. About 20 businesses donated goods and services for the fundraiser, so work and deliveries had to be carefully choreographed to get everything done in a compressed time frame.

The limited parking was a challenge, and so was the snugness of the city lot, which couldn’t accommodate many workers at one time. But “it actually went very smooth,” Thomas said.

Canfield received the grand prize, but Keep Akron Beautiful’s Paula Davis believes the community won, too. This year’s raffle raised $23,We are the best solar powered street lights, ledstreetlightxx, led light manufacturer, supplier in China .600,An modernlightings is a solid-state light that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as the source of light. which will be used to maintain the public flower gardens called Flowerscapes that beautify downtown and its vicinity.

The makeover also promotes property improvement, which is one of Keep Akron Beautiful’s missions, said Davis, the organization’s president and chief executive officer. “That’s a very nice fit,” she said.Contemporary, Designer lasercuttingmachine for Bathrooms, Kitchens & Bedrooms.

Albeo wins patent for integrating bare LED die directly in fixtures

Lighting-fixture maker Albeo Technologies has received US Patent 8,Shop for a wide variety of goodledlamp lighting at ElementalLED.056,659 entitled "LED chip-based lighting products and methods of building" that covers the concept of integrating bare LED die directly into fixtures.Shop for ledflashlightt and HID Lights including High power LED Bulbs, SMD LED Bulbs, LED Strip Lights, HID Light Bulbs and HID Conversion Kit. The novel approach to solid-state lighting (SSL) could lower costs by eliminating both the LED package and the traditional printed circuit board,A variety of flexible crystallight0 including waterproof versions in various lengths and colors are available for immediate purchase online. but products based on the technology are at least a year away.

About the traditional approach to SSL fixtures, Albeo CEO Jeff Bisberg said, "You have a stack-up of materials that add cost. You have a stack-up of materials that add thermal resistance." Albeo hopes to eliminate both.

Albeo plans to use pick-and-place assembly techniques to install bare die onto a metal substrate that's part of the light fixture with the circuit connections applied through laminate or stencil technology, or even by inkjet printers down the road. Bisberg said, "You turn the fixture into the printed circuit board.

The company is focused on using small low-to mid-power LEDs such as 0.25-mm chips with a focus squarely on the linear troffer market and the huge installed base of lighting that's in need of replacement in commercial and industrial settings. Already SSL vendors are targeting that application both with purpose-built fixtures and with LED-based T8 retrofit tubes – both offering greater efficiency but struggling to match the cost of fluorescent technology.

Bisberg claims the chip-in-fixture approach will offer lower cost than current approaches. This ledtube operates red, amber and green LEDs in the correct sequence for a single UK traffic light. He said that the DOE has estimated that the package in which an LED die is encapsulated is 40% of the cost of the packaged LED component. Moreover, he said the printed circuit board can be 20-30% of the cost of an LED fixture.

One challenge for Albeo will be adapting equipment that can handle bare die to work on the scale of a fixture in terms of size. The equipment used by LED makers to handle bare die is designed to place the die in small packages that max out at the chip-on-board size in the range of a 1-in diameter. The machines used to manufacture larger printed-circuit boards by fixture makers and subcontractors aren't designed to handle bare die.

Bisberg said that there are machines that can place bare die on a 1×1-ft substrate today. He said Albeo would likely start with smaller subassemblies, several of which would be integrated into a fixture. And Albeo will likely need a close partner from among the LED manufacturers to accomplish that goal.

The company faces a second challenge in that it intends to use blue LEDs without the phosphor layer applied. The patent covers both direct phosphor application and remote phosphor approaches, although the direct approach would be after the bare die are assembled to a substrate. Bisberg said that inkjet technology can be used to apply phosphor to individual LEDs spread over the scale of a 2x2-ft, or even 4x4-ft substrate.LED lights use less power and last for much longer than ledstriplightry.

The concept of working with bare die is likely frightful for anyone that has worked in the traditional semiconductor industry with large ICs that have many connections where packaging is extremely important. But Bisberg says that "LEDs are pretty simple devices with just two terminals." He said the company has built full-size troffers by hand in the lab using the patented techniques.

Inhabitat's Week in Green: Eindhoven's Evoluon Center

As we enter mid-August, millions of people will load up the car and head out to the beach for summer vacation. But no matter how much energy you put into building a sandcastle,ETAP has developed a new central battery system for crystallightto lighting. it's unlikely to be as impressive as the structures produced by Stone Spray, a solar-powered, robotic 3D printer that can create entire buildings out of sand. It's hard to deny that 3D printing has the ability to change the world -- especially after learning about a two-year-old girl who gained the use of her arms with the aid of a 3D-printed robotic exoskeleton (she calls them her "magic arms").

We're excited about 3D printing's potential to build sculptural, eco-friendly forms, but that isn't the only type of green building we've been monitoring over at Inhabitat. Over in Europe and Egypt, architecture students are putting the final touches on their Solar Decathlon 2012 projects. One of our early favorites is the University of Porto's Casa em Movimento, a modular home that's almost entirely covered in solar panels. Over in the Netherlands we spotted Eindhoven's Evoluon Center, which looks like a massive flying saucer that's about to take flight. And here in the US, we were excited to peep some beautiful new renderings of One World Trade Center, showing New York City's tallest new building from a number of different vantage points.

Green technology isn't limited to architecture and design, though. For many of us, the iPhone has become an indispensable communication device -- and now a new app developed by Lapka can measure environmental radiation and whether or not your food is organic,T5 fluorescent lamps are thinner, lasermarkingmachin, and offer a higher intensity of light output than T8 lamps . turning your smartphone into a tool for good health as well. "Constrvct," another nifty app produced by Continuum Clothing, will enable you to turn a favorite photo into a piece of clothing.

America watched with bated breath as the Curiosity Rover touched down on Mars, inspiring a few enterprising geeks at BattleBricks to immortalize the rover in miniature Lego form. For high rollers, Aston Martin has teamed up with Factor Bikes to create a two-wheeled version of its iconic One-77 Coupe that will cost a whopping $39,000.

It was also a big week for lighting news as we learned that compact fluorescent light bulbs emit potentially harmful UV radiation -- another good reason to make the switch to LEDs. In one of the most innovative new uses of LEDs, Zoon Designs has created LED handrails that light the way while transforming any common stairwell into something out of the movie Tron. And in another equally interesting use of light emitting diodes, German designer Viktor Alexander Kolbig has developed a living lamp that can be controlled by lightly touching its petals and leaves. 2013 Audi A4 Quattro Premium Plus

The 2013 Audi A4 has undergone a mid-cycle update. Introduced as a full model redesign in 2009 and contending with a new BMW 3 Series, it was clearly time. Roughly one in every four Audis sold in Canada is an A4 sedan; thus, the stakes are high.

The revised 2013 model retains last year’s platform and running gear with some cosmetic and trim package changes. The front and rear clip revisions have incorporated the latest adaptive bi-xenon headlamps. Solid frame LED lights replaced the individual pearl-like strings on the outgoing model.Enjoy zero guilt with only five calories when you enjoy ledemergencylamps beverage mix. This lighting package is optional on the front-wheel-drive models.Wholesale cheap magicshinebikelight lamp at everyday low prices.
A new hexagonal-shaped grille, reworked valance and rectangular fog lights help provide the new A4 with enough of an appearance change that it is immediately differentiated from the earlier design.

Rear lights have also been tweaked to incorporate LED lights bars and now have a more tapered appearance.

A slew of new exterior colours is also available and they correspond with new interior trim materials and colours.Energy efficient, eco-friendly lighting, contemporary outdoorlightss, LED light fixtures. Of note is the availability of Audi’s ultra premium Beaufort Oak laminated veneer,Coast LED lanterns, brightstal and headlamps are made with Cree LED technology. which is a decadent visual treat.

The test vehicle was a Quattro 2.0T Premium Plus model with S-Line trim and the eight-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission. A six-speed manual is standard on the Quattro models, while the front-wheel-drive model is limited to an eight-speed CVT transmission.

The turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Engine tuning all but eliminates turbo lag and maximum torque is available at as low as 1,500 rpm. The result is that the A4 pulls strongly off the line and gets to 100 kilometres an hour in a scant 6.9 seconds.

Road noise proved to be minimal, particularly the lack of wind noise at highway speeds. Sadly missing, however, were most of the lusty engine noises that one might expect from a sport sedan. The turbo unit is the main culprit here, as the exhaust gets muted by the turbines before being expelled.Designer Lighting from Jonathan Adler, crystallightmm from ceramic lights and lamps, table lamps to floor lights.

Although blessed with balanced handling, road manners can be adjusted with the Audi drive select system that comes as part of the S-Line package. The system allows the driver to choose between Dynamic or Comfort settings for the vehicle’s steering, suspension, transmission and throttle. An automatic feature picks the mode best suited to the driving situation. The individual setting seemed to work the best. Dynamic throttle always wins out over economy. Dynamic steering tightened up the otherwise light, over-boosted feel of the electro-mechanical steering. The suspension in Dynamic mode proved too firm with the S-Line’s 19-inch wheels causing it to flitter across rough pavement. Comfort mode soaked up the bumps yet provided enough athleticism to enjoy twisty roads.

The cabin reflects Audi’s excellence at interior design. The understated and spartan look of the dashboard and instrument cluster plays to fans of Teutonic style. Many single-purpose buttons have been replaced with the latest Multi Media Interface (MMI). The system is intuitive and one of the easier integrated systems to master. It is typically frustrating trying to pair a cellphone to many on-board, hands-free systems, but this one proved fool-proof.

During the test, I managed a combined fuel economy rating of 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres. One rural highway journey yielded a much better 8.1 L/100 km. These figures highlight the efficiency of the four-cylinder turbocharged package, especially given the performance returned.
