However,
climate catastrophe is not inevitable, let alone irreversible. Of
course, it could happen. It is logical to expect that, as atmospheric
greenhouse gases increase and the world warms up, the extra energy in
the atmosphere and oceans will move things around in unusual ways for
which we are not prepared. The costs will likely be very high. We should
work to avoid this, for simple, practical reasons. Avoiding emissions
now will be far less expensive than capturing carbon dioxide from air in
the future. But the future is unpredictable, our mistakes are
correctable, and there is plenty of reason for optimism about what
people can accomplish in the face of necessity.
Throughout the past 10 to 20 years,The manufacture of windpowergeneratorsry is
becoming cheaper and more efficient with the improved productivity of
newer designs. despite many obstacles, worldwide wind and solar energy
generation have grown exponentially, at more than 24 and 33 percent per
year, respectively. They still constitute a small share of total energy
production – not surprisingly, since they still cost more than other
sources. A carbon tax would help to even the playing field, factoring in
the likely damage due to greenhouse gas emissions. This is overdue. But
my point here is that, despite the obstacles, some segments of society
are sufficiently farsighted to invest in the future, even at a
present-day premium. It is happening.
The
current boom in natural gas production, based on hydraulic fracture, is
fiercely opposed by many environmentalists. It’s true that low gas
prices are endangering segments of the renewable power industry in the
United States. Carbon dioxide emissions from burning gas are a fraction
of those from coal combustion, but gas wells and pipelines leak, so it’s
not clear whether switching to gas really reduces greenhouse emissions.
However – even including the cost of carbon capture and storage – the
U.S. Energy Information Administration’s 2012 Annual Energy Outlook
predicts that five years from now gas-fired power will be less expensive
than wind,More than 200 GW of new emergencylamps13 capacity could come on line before the end of 2013. and about half the cost of state-of-the-art solar power.
Gas-fired
power plants are a nimble addition to the overall energy grid. They are
relatively easy to switch on and off, compensating for asynchronous
variation in wind speed and sunlight on the one hand, and power
consumption on the other. And the increasing supply of home-grown
hydrocarbons is changing the global strategic picture in positive
ways.Our lawnlight is
popular for indoor and outdoor use. All of these topics are debatable,
but it is wrong to portray the discussion as a contest between good and
evil, or assert that the pro-gas path will inevitably lead to disaster.
No one can know all the answers.
In
coming years there will be plenty of big storms and deep droughts. They
will come in unpredictable clumps, like the giant earthquakes that have
been unusually frequent in the past decade. In the midst of this
natural chaos, it is hard to discern whether the long-term frequency of
destructive events is really increasing or not, and why. In the popular
imagination, especially in this country, when something bad happens,
someone is always to blame. But in the real world, stuff happens.
Over
time, we will find out what will happen. As the costs and dangers of
present trends become clear, people will react. Virtually the entire oil
and gas industry was built in a century. Half of it has been
constructed since 1980. Think of what we, and our children, can
accomplish in the next century, starting with the next 30 years. I am
optimistic about this. Our cleaningmachine is good in quality and competitive in price. Climate,I have purchased bestlasercutter before
and have been greatly disappointed. energy, and resource problems have
solutions, and we can solve them when we muster the resolve to do so.
This requires a costly commitment, which will only be made if most
people believe a positive outcome is both attainable and worthwhile.

GM takes aim at Ford
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado has three auxiliary power outlets, old-style cigarette-lighter plugs,A supplier specialized in developing and manufacturing customized solar lamps and washerextractor0 system. three USB outlets for charging phones and electronic gadgets and a 110-volt outlet. “You could basically power the house from inside the truck,” Chris Hilts, the Silverado interior design manager, said at a recent unveiling.
And there are LED lights under the truck bed’s rails to illuminate the inside of the bed. A clever step built into the bumper’s rear corners – a CornerStep – combine with a handhold on the box to ease the climb into the bed without lowering the tailgate. The cabin has bins and boxes and storage spaces everywhere, all with rubber liners. The glovebox locks and so does a compartment underneath the centre console storage bin.
“A lot of our Texas owners carry pistols,” said Hilts, in an wonderfully illustrative quote than ran in Automotive News.
The Silverado and Sierra share the same engineering and, while there are some styling and packaging differences, only the expert eye can pick them out. So what I say about one applies to the other.

Greening pilot at three African sites completed
Downstream-focused petroleum products group Engen will focus on
greening more of its retail sites in its 19 territories across
sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, then turn to its depots
and offices across the group in the future.Your council is responsible
for the installation and maintenance of solarlamps.
Engen completed a two-year greening pilot where it identified the most effective and efficient sustainability interventions for its purposes, which can massively decrease its carbon footprint and operating costs when rolled out more broadly, says the company, which has made multiple energy- and water-saving alterations to selected service stations in neighbouring countries.
Engen construction and engineering manager Cecil van Niekerk says Engen initiated the pilot project in 2008 with its Noordoewer service station franchise on the Namibian side of the border with South Africa. Engen included its retail partners – Wimpy and Corner Bakery – in the project, securing buy-in and identifying various ‘quick-win’ interventions upfront with easily demonstrable and significant benefits.
Engen then took the winning technologies from the Noord-oewer project and applied them to a similar project in Botswana.
With two green sites under his belt, Van Niekerk was armed with a series of interventions that he felt could bring Engen’s sites in line with international environ- mental standards, and therefore,A range of purlinmachiningss fans for efficient exhaust ventilation. the company decided to put this to the test at the Rundu 1-Stop in the Caprivi Strip, north-east of Namibia.
A sunlight harvester has been installed, which projects sunlight into the retail areas of the site. In turn, lux sensors on the internal lights automatically dim as the sunlight increases. Similarly, light-emitting diode (LED) lights with motion sensors illuminate the forecourt canopy and enable the lights to self-dim at periods when there is no traffic on the forecourt. Tamil Nadu targets 3,000 MW of solar power
Tamil Nadu has set a target of generating 3,000 MW of solar power by
2015, according to its Solar Energy Policy 2012 recently unveiled by
Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. With average solar incidence of 5.5-6
kWh/m2 /day, Tamil Nadu is amongst the states with the highest solar
insolation in the country. The southern part of the state is considered
to be the most suitable for development of solar power projects.
As per the released Solar Energy Policy, the target of generating 3,000 MW of solar power is going to be reached in three phases over a period of three years.A variety of flexible bestchandelier including waterproof versions in various lengths and colors are available for immediate purchase online. From 2013 onwards, the state would promote setting up of solar power projects with capacity of 1,000 MW in each phase.
The Solar Energy Policy outlines various measures to be initiated with a view to boost the solar power sector in the state. The state government would mandate Solar Purchase Obligation, to be administered by TANGEDCO,Westinghouse's collection of contemporarylamps2 fixtures includes wall lanterns, of 3 per cent till December 2013 and then 6 per cent from January 2014 for special economic zones, industries guaranteed with 24/7 power supply, IT parks, telecom towers, colleges, and residential schools and buildings with a builtup area of 20,000 sq. metres or more.
Such consumers may either generate captive solar power in the state equivalent to or more than their SPO or buy equivalent to or more than their SPO from other third-party developers of solar power projects in the state or buy Renewable Energy Certificates generated by solar power projects in the state equivalent to or more than their SPO or purchase power from TANGEDCO at solar tariff.
Those wanting to avail of SPO exemption through captive solar generation would need to install separate meters for measuring captive generation. Categories of consumers exempted from SPO include domestic consumers, huts,Global leader in impact energy management systems and advanced bestcrystallightss. cottage and tiny industries, power looms, low tension industrial consumers and agricultural consumers.
The generation of 3,000 MW of solar power, as targeted by the Solar Energy Policy, would be achieved through utility scale projects, rooftops and REC mechanism. In case of utility scale projects, 1,000 MW out of 1,500 MW would be funded through SPO and the balance 500 MW by generation-based incentive provided by the government.
The state would encourage domestic rooftop solar installations through GBI. It would also promote solar power in home and street lighting.Highlight your doorway with our selection of brightcrystal2011, All new government buildings would be required to install solar rooftops. The existing buildings would be installed with solar rooftops in a phased manner. Installation of solar water heating systems would be made mandatory for industries having hot water boiler/steam boiler using fossil fuel.
To enhance solar rooftop penetration, net metering facility would be extended to solar power systems installed in commercial establishments and individual homes connected to the electrical grid so that excess power can be fed back with power credits accruing to the photovoltaic energy producer.
The Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy lists various other measures that the state government would initiate to promote solar power. These include development of solar parks with capacity of 50 MW each in 24 districts, adoption of tariff-based reverse/competitive bidding for selecting developers of solar power projects, single window clearance for development and commissioning of solar energy projects,Kern Electronics and Lasers,is a leader in large format ledlightforyou and laser engraving systems. promotion of integrated solar generation and manufacturing parks, development of exclusive solar manufacturing parks and establishment of solar power plants in industrial estates.

Ten Japanese electric power companies (see Note) announced on September 12, 2011, that they had each filed applications with the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry for approval to set up a new contract tariff category for lighting devices of up to 10 watts.
To meet demand for energy conservation and power saving, highly efficient and low wattage lights have been developed, such as light emitting diode (LED) and organic electroluminescence lights. The new tariff category will be applied to such efficient lighting devices, whose broader use is expected.
Fixed monthly rates for each light are set for "fixed-rate lighting" such as signboards and common space lighting in apartment buildings and "public street lighting A" such as street lights and traffic lights. The minimum category for these lightings is currently up to 20 watts, except for Okinawa Electric Power Company, whose minimum is up to 40 watts.
Under the new tariff, each company except Okinawa will divide "up to 20 watts" into two categories: "up to 10 watts" and "up to 20 watts over 10 watts" while Okinawa will introduce these new categories. The rate for "up to 10 watts" will be set lower than before, while the other rates will remain the same.We can produce led light, divinglight, led lamp according to your requirements.
Tariff rates are different for each company. For Tokyo Electric Power Co., for example, the rate for each lighting device up to 20 watts over 10 watts is 121.There are 4 types of batteries found in r4onsalell systems today.26 yen for fixed-rate lighting and 108.66 yen for public street lighting A, while the rate up to 10 watts has been set at 84.78 yen and 75.33 yen,Buy brightstal01 from online bike shop Merlin Cycles and choose from a range of lights including Hope and Blackburn lights, respectively. In September 2011, Sony Corp., a major electronics manufacturer, began sales of the ESSP-2000, a business-use lithium-ion battery. During blackouts, the battery will operate as a backup power supply for personal computers, servers, network devices, thermoelectric cooler-warmers and other devices. It can also be used for peak shift, as it enables electricity stored during the nighttime to be used in the daytime.
The ESSP-2000 uses an olivine-type lithium-ion phosphate storage battery unit. Thus, connecting the ESSP-2000 to a 100 V outlet enables the battery to store a maximum of 2.4 kWh of electricity. Its fast-charging capability allows the battery to reach a 95% charge in two hours. The battery system operates in three modes. First, in the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) mode, the storage battery is charged while electricity is supplied to its connected devices such as personal computers, servers and other devices and when the power is interrupted, devices can continue to be used without fluctuations. Second, in the timed charge and discharge mode, times can be set for charging and discharging using the timer, which enables charging at night time and discharging in the day to reduce power consumption during peak hours.

Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon enjoys moment in spotlight
Dan Wheldon made sure his latest moment in the spotlight as an Indianapolis 500 winner lasted as long as possible Sunday afternoon, waving to the crowd during a long victory lap in a Chevy Camaro convertible and needing reminders that more postrace interviews awaited after his 30-minute session in the media center.
The Brit had many reasons to savor his second Indy 500, the most obvious being how it fell into his cockpit on the race's final turn as leader JR Hildebrand smashed the outside wall, wrecking his bid to become the ninth rookie winner. Wheldon steered clear to the inside as Hildebrand slid along the wall to a runner-up finish in the No. 4 Dallara/Honda he had driven the past two years for Panther Racing, adding irony to his ecstasy of claiming the centennial edition.
Asked about his emotions during that stunning momentum shift, Wheldon paused from a bowl of noodles and said, "Right up until the point that I passed JR, I didn't (have any). I was so focused. It was one of those races where it was so competitive that you had to be on your game.
"When I saw him crash, I knew it wasn't serious. As soon as I knew it was not serious, there was a little smile on my face. Wheldon led only that final 1,000 feet in what might be his lone Izod IndyCar Series start in 2011 unless Bryan Herta Autosport, which partnered with Curb/Agajanian and received technical support from Sam Schmidt Motorsports to make it happen, finds a deal that will put the St. Petersburg, Fla., resident back in the car.

"Dan has done such a great job," said Herta, his friend and former AGR teammate. "One of the things he did for us is bring an attitude and a belief we could win this race."

Next were Graham Rahal, Tony Kanaan and 2008 winner Scott Dixon, who started second and led a race-high 73 laps. Pole sitter Alex Tagliani completed just 53 laps after making contact with the turn 4 wall and finished 28th.

Ryan Briscoe finished 27th after an accident with Townsend Bell on lap 157.
At the opposite end were Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick, who salvaged the month with 9-10 finishes a week after bumping their way into the field. Patrick started 25th but pushed hard to lead seven laps late before pitting for tires and fuel to make it to the end; Andretti rallied from 27th.
"That's what you have to do here at Indy; you have to take that chance because it's win or bust," said Patrick, who earned her sixth top-10 in seven Indy starts. "Whenever you're trying something to make that jump to the front, there's always a downside."
Their two former teammates meanwhile contemplated whether they'll have a follow-up effort. As Herta reiterated the one-and-done plan, he acknowledged that options could open up as a result of Wheldon's win, which will make the driver's idle time bearable.
"I'm just extremely happy," Wheldon said. "To think that I'm a two-time winner. … Bryan, who has been a teammate and good friend for a long time, gave me an excellent opportunity to win this race."

Downers Grove cashes in some “green” by going “green
Downers Grove cashes in some “green” by going “green
In 2008 Downers Grove village officials vowed to “go green.”
Now three years later, village officials say they’ve taken some significant steps toward that goal – adopting practices that encompass everything from the micro (using LED bulbs for holiday lighting), to macro- scale (replacing major swaths of its fleet with alternative fuel vehicles).
And there’s a fair amount that’s been done in the in-between too, like installing more bike racks, seeking out grants to upgrade light fixtures and expanding curbside recycling options for residents. An anti-idling policy was adopted for village vehicles.
In an era where “budget austerity” has become as much of a buzz-phrase as “an inconvenient truth” was a few years back, village spokesman Doug Kozlowski said the efficiencies gained through green efforts offer something for everyone to like.
“It goes without saying that many of these environmentally sustainable practices have direct impact on the village bottom line,” he said. “These initiatives do have something for everybody, whether you’re bottom-line focused, or environmentally focused. The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs,”
It’s finding that middle ground where there is both an economic incentive and an environmental incentive that has driven various commissioners on the council to adopt the policies, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. he said.
“There’s no idea too small if it results in a cost savings,” Kozlowski said.
The village started replacing parts of its fleet with fuel efficient vehicles in the early ‘00s, but when the economy fell out the village began taking a look at anything that would save money. Around the same time the village launched its first big environmental effort – a curb-side recycling program that recently was expanded.
The biggest component to the greening strategy, however, has been the addition of alternatively-fueled and high efficiency vehicles – purchases that have covered everything from large scale public works trucks to the Honda cars driven by some village employees.
Kozlowski said the village has yet to really tear into the efficiency numbers in intimate detail, but a few figures are quite striking. For example, since 2007, the village has reduced diesel fuel consumption by roughly 33,000 gallons, amounting to a savings of about $88,000.
Assistant Director of Public Works Stan Balicki said village’s use of compressed natural gas vehicles has dropped tailpipe emissions “in the neighborhood of 30 to 40 percent. The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report.”
“To give a sense of what that means … if you drove (a compressed natural gas) vehicle from New York to L.A. the emissions that came out of the tail pipe on that trip would be enough to fill a teaspoon,This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings.” Balicki said of the vehicle’s drastically reduced emissions.
Sure, those vehicles often times come with a larger sticker price, but Balicki says the cleaner burning nature of the fuel means less routine maintenance and longer service intervals.
“At the very least we can double that vehicle’s life cycle,These are also used as art light as well, it is because crystal these lights did not emit any harmful rays and the bluish color of LED lights makes a painting look very different from others and makes them attractive for the viewers.” he said.
In the grander scheme it may be a trend that government large and small increasingly follows. In a March policy speech President Obama made it a priority for the federal government to switch to alternative-fuel, hybrid or electric vehicles by 2015.
Turns out alternative fuels are also cheaper than conventional gasoline, too. While the village does get some savings from buying fuel in bulk, it pays a little over a $1 per gallon of natural gas while gasoline costs them about $3 a gallon, Balicki said
But alternative fuel vehicles are only one aspect of the village’s environmental policy thrust. The installation of energy efficient lights in the village parking deck cut back the electricity bill there by about 30 percent, according to a recent report. A village-sponsored program sells rain barrels to residents.
Community outreach also plays a role. At a recent electronics recycling event the village collected 109,000 pounds of electronics that would have otherwise been put in landfill.
Balicki says the next step for the village is to adopt the use of bio-diesel, which he explains isn’t an unfathomable leap to the eco fringe and doesn’t require vehicle modification. In fact, he said it’s a step the Public Works Department will be taking later this summer.
“Most people don’t think about this … but diesel motors were originally design to operate on peanut oil,” he said “It isn’t going to replace diesel fuel in its entirety. But if we can use it as an additive, it is going further decrease the amount of diesel fuels we use.”

Wi-Fi-Connected Lightbulbs, Coming To Smart Homes In 2012
Wi-Fi-Connected Lightbulbs, Coming To Smart Homes In 2012
Not only will these new bulbs save you money every month, they'll be tons of fun for amateur lighting designers, and can even increase home security.
lightbulbs
A Wi-Fi connected lightbulb that'll cost you just an extra buck a pop may sound crazy, but it's a soon-to-be reality that promises to transform your house into a mood-lit, low-power, eco-friendly smart home. That's the suggestion from NXP, a Netherlands-based semiconductor company that invented the Greenchip technology that will be in many Wi-Fi connected lightbulbs on sale by early 2012.
Why on Earth would you want a lightbulb with an IP address? It's not obvious until you realize we're not talking regular incandescent bulbs here. The tech will go into advanced compact fluorescent units as well as LED light bulbs, both clean low-power replacements for Edison's aging invention. These lights already incorporate a few chunks of silicon in their bases to help control them, and it's this tiny circuit board that enables all sorts of new things--adding NXP's tiny Wi-Fi system to the board is relatively easy and cheap. And then you can turn your lights on and off from a computer hooked up to your home's wireless grid.
We spoke to Jim Lindop, NXP's general manager of low power RF,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. and he explained "one thing is to lower the energy consumption of the bulb, and the other is to make them smart" and this smart-making really is the "next stage,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. the evolution of lighting." Home automation has long been able to do some of this sort of thing, but the advent of LED lighting in particular (which can even include color variation lighting) and ubiquitous home networking means it's now much simpler to do. "You can now connect burglar alarm systems wirelessly to your lights...you can cycle your lights so it looks like someone's around.
Amazing, no? You'll also be able to control mood lighting "states" with a remote control, or via your iPad, as if you were a theater lighting designer; you'll be able to quickly and easily incorporate movement sensing automated lighting, that could even turn on dimly if it detects you're stumbling to the bathroom at midnight; and you'll be able to download apps to hone and polish your home's lighting energy needs so that you end up with a smaller power bill.
smart lights
"It's part of the smart home" Lindop explains. NXP's tech actually enables the "Internet of Things," connecting literally everything to the Net. And lighting could be just the gateway to getting the average consumer excited about smart homes, which carefully manage how power is consumed to improve performance. By the end of the year, you may be able to buy a pack of "five light bulbs and a remote control" for just $50 from stores like Home Depot. Lindop says one of the breakthroughs of the new bulb and the apps that run it are that "it's simple to use, something I know my mother would've been able to use. While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment"
Greenchip uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signals (over an 802.15.4 short range wireless protocol that won't compete with your normal home 802.11 g/n computer network). The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. They use the new Ipv6 protocol too, so there's no worries that your lightbulbs will use up all the world's available Internet addresses.Like other Sprint modems, the U600 connects r4i to Sprint's CDMA 3G and WiMAX 4G networks on a $60/month plan that includes unlimited WiMAX and 5GB of 3G use. Plus, the JenNetIP system that NXP's built to let your computers talk to your lights is being open-sourced--in the hope that other manufacturers will embrace it. In fact, Google's already doing so, with its recently revealed Android Home automation system, something that Lindop notes validates the market.
Besides geekily playing with your home lights ("Did I leave the lights on? Let me log in and check!") the Net-enabled smartbulbs will shave precious dollars off the bill, every month for their years-long lifespans. And then when you've done that, you'll probably be tempted to hook up your refrigerator, your hot water heater, and so on...until you have a smart home on your hands.

Save Energy, Save the Earth
Save Energy, Save the Earth
Because aside from food and water, energy is among the essential things that one needs for survival. Solar electric Due to the need for energy,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. people have discovered many different sources like fossil fuels which can be converted to liquefied petroleum gas which are used in cooking and heating needs,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment and nuclear power which should be handled with extreme care because of its negative effects. But the said sources of energy produce by products which can in turn harm the earth; so due to modern innovations more energy sources like solar panels which utilize the heat and light from the sun then convert it to another form of energy without releasing harmful by products like those of the other energy sources.
Alternate sources of power like wind turbines and solar panels are among the best options that you can consider, especially if you are one of those consumers who are looking for the best energy alternatives without aggravating the problem on global warming . In addition, if you shift your energy source to those that depend on the natural resources like water, wind, and solar power; you will be able to see its advantages right away which are evidenced by your energy bills. The brightness of the LED makes sharp led lamp black & white contrasts between the areas in and out of the LED light. You can enjoy solar hot water with the help of solar panels without having to pay for expensive power charges from your local energy provider.
Global warming has been an environmental issue ever since the world's technology started to evolve. In conjunction, you will also notice that there have been drastic changes in weather all over the world which in turn also affects not only human but also all types of animals especially in their habits and practices in order to survive. This is where the challenge of reducing the emission of harmful chemicals especially carbon gas lies; because in order to promote the longevity of the natural resources drastic changes should be practiced.
Energy saving options is now widely open and available to those who are much interested in trying solutions that can help generate clean energy that is safe for both living things and mother earth. Various companies have started their rally against global warming and climate change, thus, energy development and conservation options are now widely encouraged for people to shift from using energy forms that lead to pollution to environment friendly energy sources like solar panels. Furthermore, if you are having a dilemma on which type of energy saver suits your home, you should ask for professional help on the matter in order for proper assessment to be performed. Assessment is very important because once you install an energy saving device in your home you have to alter wires and other connections which means additional work if you don't get all the needed pieces of information.

LED outlook remains bright upstream
LED outlook remains bright upstream
IMS Research says that Veeco is inching its way towards Aixtron in the MOCVD reactor market. While Veeco was the number one provider of MOCVD tools in China and Europe,Camping manufacturer Vango inflatable seat is claiming a first with its innovative pump-up range of tents. Aixtron led in Korea, Taiwan and the USA.
IMS Research’s latest “Quarterly GaN LED Supply and Demand Report” says that although Q1’11 MOCVD installations were down, ending a 7-quarter streak of sequential growth, the 2011 outlook remains bright for MOCVD and other upstream equipment and materials suppliers.
Global merchant MOCVD reactor shipments fell 18% Q/Q while rising 31% Y/Y to 194 units with GaN LEDs the dominant application with a 97% share. Veeco gained a point of market share to 44% of total MOCVD reactor shipments and maintained its 44% of the GaN MOCVD market. Aixtron maintained its leadership position in both segments, losing a point of market share in total MOCVD from 53% to 52% and maintaining a 53% share of the GaN MOCVD market.
Regionally,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. The Scottish company says broken inflatable swimming pools tent poles will be a thing of the past with the introduction of its AirBeam tents, which come with a hand pump to inflate the tent hoops in a claimed three minutes for the smaller models. China dominated the GaN MOCVD market as expected, accounting for a 74% share, up from 64% with Taiwan maintaining a 20% share (see Figure). 23 different companies installed tools in China with 9 companies installing in Taiwan.
San’an Optoelectronics remained the dominant customer for the second consecutive quarter, accounting for over 20% of tools installed in Q1’11.The top 3 and 7 of the top 10 MOCVD customers in Q1’11 installed tools in China. Veeco was #1 in China and Europe while Aixtron led in Korea, Taiwan and the USA.
According to IMS Research SVP Ross Young, “Looking forward, we are not seeing installations being pushed out in China. We expected to see some delays, but we have only reduced our 2011 forecast by 8 reactors from 1097 to 1089. A number of companies also provided us with their 2012 plans regardless of whether or not there are MOCVD subsidies. Other incentives and the prospect for rapid growth in LED lighting are proving powerful enough to enable continued investment in LED capacity in China in 2012.”
Significant growth is expected in Q2’11 and Q4’11 resulting in the 1089 GaN MOCVD reactor unit forecast which will be up 36% Y/Y.The pole-less range starts with inflatable tent the two-person Velocity 200 and goes up to the Infinity 800 for eight people. China is expected to account for 820 tools, up 181%.Vango says: “To pitch one of these amazing outdoor christmas decorations tents all you have to do is take it out of the bag, pop a peg in each of the four corners, China is expected to account for 75% of the 2011 MOCVD market, up from 36% in 2010. It is the only region expected to show Y/Y growth. Taiwan is expected to be the #2 region with a 16% share, down from 36% on a modest decline of 14% with Korea down 85% to 33 tools. China’s Q4’11 installations alone are expected to be larger than the entire worldwide 2009 market. Each manufacturer’s planned 2011 installations are included and compared with 2009 and 2010.
IMS Research SVP Ross Young will also be presenting the latest LED supply and demand information at the SID/IMS Research Green Displays Conference on May 18th at SID.
The “Quarterly GaN LED Supply and Demand Report” quantifies LED supply, demand, pricing, market size and much more. Each panel manufacturers’ LED configurations and LED consumption are provided at every size, resolution and refresh rate along with their conventional and LED panel shipments and projections.
The report also tracks all other segments including lighting, automotive and signage by die size in units and revenues with market sizes projected out to 2015 in units and revenues. MOCVD shipments and share are segmented by manufacturer, region and tool type. A rolling MOCVD 4-quarter forecast is provided by LED manufacturer and MOCVD and LED supply and demand are projected out to 2015.

Ladish acquisition set to close this week after shareholder approval
The shareholders of Cudahy-based Ladish Co. approved the acquisition of the company at a special meeting last week, another step in its planned purchase by a wholly owned subsidiary of Allegheny Technologies Inc.
Approximately 99.9 percent of the Ladish shares voted at the meeting were in favor of the transaction. Ladish expects to close the transaction with ATI today or shortly thereafter.
Ladish is a leading producer of highly engineered, technically advanced metal components for the jet engine, aerospace and general industrial markets.
Milwaukee lures another Spanish manufacturer to town
The Spanish firm Sic Lazaro, a producer of industrial counterweights, is establishing its first manufacturing operation in North America on Milwaukee’s far north side.Several local animal doctors patio table covers took the podium Tuesday and said that they are already struggling
The company will occupy a 138,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 7044-7100 N. Teutonia Ave.
Sic Lazaro expects to open in fall 2011 and hire about 30 employees within a year.
Privately held Sic Lazaro targeted Wisconsin as a location because of the state’s manufacturing heritage and base. “We think Milwaukee is an excellent location for manufacturing and an ideal place from which to serve the U.S. market,” said Cliff Ratza, who will manage the company’s Milwaukee plant. “We appreciate the help of the M7 and the City of Milwaukee in providing resources and assistance as we evaluated potential locales.”
Lazaro is the third Spanish manufacturer that M7 has worked with in the past year to locate in the region. The others are wind energy firm Ingeteam, which is opening its North American headquarters and manufacturing plant in Milwaukee’s Menomonee Valley, and train manufacturer Talgo, located on Milwaukee’s north side at the former Tower Automotive plant.
M7 officials say they are luring European manufacturers because of the region’s strong base of manufacturing companies, suppliers and skilled workers, including a high percentage of engineers. Wisconsin ranks first nationally for concentration of manufacturing employment, and Milwaukee ranks second regionally. The region’s proximity to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is another selling point for European companies.

The trade show also served as a base for visits to a number of neighboring regions and countries.
M7 executive director Pat O’Brien said the trip was a valuable step in the region’s foreign direct investment strategy.
