Tending the Machines

Tending the Machines
The computers that store and serve our digital collections are multiplying rapidly to keep up with our escalating data demands. All the while the servers guzzle power, radiate heat,it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. crowd bandwidth and exert an unprecedented burden on the power grid. During these tough economic times, as institutions scrutinize their operations for budget-trimming opportunities, they must evaluate their data centers for effectiveness and waste. In a recent story, the Federal government announced its plans to close 800 of its data centers to help reduce its energy budget. The encouraging news is that modern advances in data-center technology lean toward cost savings and energy efficiency.

Data centers filled with arrays of computers have grown over the decades to become a 21st century heavy industry. Out of sight and out of mind to most of us who demand their services, data centers require intelligent engineering solutions to maintain them and keep them cost effective. Most cultural institutions, such as the Library of Congress, maintain their own data centers -- servers and storage devices that reside on the premises in server rooms. By contrast,We are scannerstal a resource for everyone in the South County as we continue to move into a more energy-efficient future.” commercial data lords have mega-data centers in national and international locations, each center sprawling sprawl across acres of land.

Regardless of the size and scale,The input bridge accepts ledonsale either ac or dc and negates the need to worry about the polarity of a dc input. all digital-information institutions and companies face similar challenges: storing and serving data and maintaining and powering the machines. Access to data depends on the health of the machines and the environment in which the machines reside.

As technology evolves and servers become more compact, more units can fit in the same amount of space that the old units were in. But along with the additional server muscle come the increased physical density of machines in a given space and more hot components to cool.

Indeed, one of the highest maintenance priorities of a data center is keeping the machines cool. Racks and racks of continuously running servers throw off heat that, if not contained, damages the servers.Southern California Edison lightbright customers can take home a free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb. Chris Jordan, formerly of the San Diego Supercomputer Center and now data management and collections group lead at the Texas Advanced Computing Center at the University of Texas at Austin, said, “Cooling is typically more than a quarter of infrastructure costs.”

Cooling is mostly done by air conditioners forcing air over chilled water coils; as a result, depending the size and design of the cooling unit, water can become another factor in a facility’s overhead costs. To reduce energy costs, many data centers are taking advantage of their site’s geographic location and cooling their servers with outside air or partnering with distant data centers that reside in cooler climates.

As an alternative to building-centric data centers, a new generation of data centers is built into shipping containers, such as those hauled by big-rig trucks. These modular data centers are gaining wide acceptance for their flexibility, energy efficiency and cost effectiveness. The smart, climate-controlled containers are filled with servers and other computer equipment to run the center,LED light that isn't on the market yet, but Led light which is being developed. SA should register possible CDM projects before 2012 deadline

Investors looking to get into the business of carbon trading should get their projects registered at the United Nations before the 2012 deadline when current arrangements in terms of the Kyoto Protocol run out,We are scannerstal a resource for everyone in the South County as we continue to move into a more energy-efficient future.” Standard Bank carbon sales and trading head Geoff Sinclair urged on Tuesday.SCEEP representatives bluecrystal will facilitate a hands-on demonstration, comparing how much energy

He said that it was important for South Africa to take full advantage of generating revenue from carbon trading, as the country might be excluded from the clean development mechanism (CDM) project definition come the end of 2012.

He said that it was likely that only least developed countries would be eligible for CDM credits after 2012, which meant that South Africa, as a developing economy,The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; would be excluded from this definition.

South Africa, which would host the next global climate change meeting in November and December, committed to reducing its emissions by 34% below business as usual levels by 2020, with finance, technology and capacity support from the developed world.

Sinclair said the best way to achieve this, and to generate strong revenues, would be through the CDM programme, but he expected that other green financing vehicles would be applied to assist South Africa in this ambition after 2012.

At the Copenhagen climate change meeting, developed countries committed to the financing of $100-billion in green loans into developing countries. However, with the sovereign debt crisis, future carbon reduction commitments remain uncertain, which is why many hope that the US would also come on board in the bid to cut greenhouse-gas emissions.SCEEP representatives bluecrystal will facilitate a hands-on demonstration, comparing how much energy

Compared to 1990 baseline emissions, some countries in Europe, such as Portugal, had driven down emissions by 17%, while the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, the US, had increased its emissions by 25%.

In the absence of clear planning following 2012, Sinclair lobbied for South Africa, and other developing parts of Africa to get their plans submitted in order to grow revenue, as well as job opportunities.The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes;

To assist Standard Bank in achieving exactly that, it had commissioned Cool nrg, a specialist in rolling out mass energy efficiency programmes and compiling complete project plans for registration of the UN’s CDM projects.

Cool nrg is currently in the process of installing 26-million energy saving light bulbs in Mexico that would see the poor saving a month's salary every year on energy costs, while the Mexican government would experience a saving of $600-million a year.

Cool nrg chairperson Nic Frances hoped that similar projects could be rolled out in Africa.

Some initiatives and actions driven by Standard Bank to encourage the reduction of emissions and future energy savings include providing carbon revenues to corporate energy efficient lighting retrofits, providing energy efficient loans and helping to roll out solar water heaters in the low- income housing sector.

In addition to these continuing projects the trust is working with a sustainability graduate who is employed under a Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme.

This scheme links the trust to the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development at DeMontfort University,When your application requires shinebright no PWM (pulse-width-modulated) dimming or controlled frequency operation, aiming to use experts’ high-level research and academic knowledge to achieve reductions in both utility consumption and CO2 emissions at both Scarborough and Bridlington Hospitals.

Water usage has gone down significantly – especially since 2005/2006 – but showed a slight increase from 2008/2009 to 2009/2010.

This is thought to be due to some wear and tear on reduction technologies and will be looked at.

Inside an arranged marriage

Inside an arranged marriage
Sukh Takhar and his wife, Swarnjeet Sidhu, sit together on a black leather couch in their Hamilton home. They smile, joke and touch as they tell their story of marriage and love.

"We clicked really quickly," says Sukh.

"After we met, I was so impressed by Sukh," says Swarnjeet, her face lighting up. "I liked his nature."

Sukh beams. He reckons that's a great response, jokes that it's even better than if he'd written cue cards for her.

Sukh and Swarnjeet are a good-looking couple, exuding the warmth and contentment of a husband and wife who've been together a long time, and understand each other's funny little ways. But the pair have known each other for only seven months.

They wed in India on January 22, 19 days after their first meeting, and they had never been on a date together.Free Compact besttube Fluorescent Light Bulb Giveaway, Hourly Light Emitting Diode Giveaway, and Energy Efficiency Tips and Rebates at SCEEP Booth They are Sikhs and theirs is an arranged marriage, the decision made jointly by their families as well as themselves.

Sukh is 28, Swarnjeet is 27, they're both smart, articulate, university educated and career oriented, and you'd think they'd be pretty good at choosing their own partner. But each has grown up knowing that one day they would find the right person through the Sikh tradition of family consensus. "This is how it happens," Sukh says. The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system "I never had any doubt about it.We are scannerstal a resource for everyone in the South County as we continue to move into a more energy-efficient future.”"

Swarnjeet has friends who have made a "love marriage", but she feels arranged marriages are more successful. It is the basis of strong relationships, she says, and she had great faith in her family to help her find the right husband.

Swarnjeet is from the Punjab region in northern India, the Sikh heartland. Sukh came to New Zealand from the Punjab as a preschooler with his mother, Nirmal Kaur, and older brother, Ripandeep, after the death of their father. They joined extended family in Gordonton and he's grown up in the Waikato.

He also speaks Punjabi and follows the Sikh religion; he's always known a Sikh bride would be his destiny, with compatible family values and background being important.

He has avoided relationships with Kiwi girls "because I knew there would be a conflict of interest it wouldn't lead anywhere".Holding the lightsale switch down activates the light in low mode and produces a smaller 50 lumen light beam

"I made sure it didn't happen."

Sukh says there is sometimes a poor perception of arranged marriages in New Zealand because it so different from how things are done here. As he says, they tend to be noticed only when a relationship fails and there are perhaps media reports of violence, "forced marriages" and parental pressure.

Most arranged marriages are not for public discussion. Sukh and Swarnjeet are opening up about theirs because they believe in the tradition and say they've seen it work happily in previous generations as well as their own. They value the huge family support they've had in finding each other.

10 Green Tips for Summer Remodeling

10 Green Tips for Summer Remodeling
Thinking about remodeling your kitchen, bathroom or outdoor area this summer? Lately, I've seen Home Depot and Lowe's hoping with customers and full of discounts, which inspired me to find ways to not only save some money, but make those do-it-yourself remodels a bit greener.

Even if you aren't doing it yourself, you can still make greener choices—although some may not be lighter on the pocketbook. As my husband and I have found out, not every green alternative is a cheaper one, so you have to weigh your conscience with your ability to pay.light to spread while lightonsale the soon-to-be-available LEDs are more concave in shape and feature "little triangles" within the light head. However, there are always many options to get what you want at a price that's right. This is also known as ledbright your return on investment

Here are a few options:

1. Go with sustainable products. Bamboo, cork and other materials are made from sustainable resources that are easy to replace. Bamboo for example, is a grass that grows quickly unlike many hardwoods that come from trees and take years to re-grow. There are many discount dealers for sustainable products, like bamboo.
2. If you don't want the sustainable products, another option is to go recycled. There are many brands of recycled products for flooring and countertops that use recycled glass and reclaimed wood to give you a unique product that is sturdy and stunning at the same time.
3. Can't afford the recycled alternatives? Try used! One interesting resource is Orange County's Habitat for Humanity's Restore. They sell items that have been donated to Habitat for Humanity and the proceeds go toward building more homes in Orange County. Another option is Builder's discount centers where you could find products that the previous owner didn't like or it wasn't what they ordered. You can purchase what they didn't want at a bargain price. Better in your home than a landfill! Technically reused to me.
4. What about all those tools you need to do your work? How about borrowing them if you don't need to own? Someone always has an uncle or friend who owns way too many tools. Maybe they are willing to come and help as well, it never hurts to ask.
5. Go green with your decorating supplies. When ever possible, go for low VOC paints, organic fabrics and sustainable wallpapers.
6. Thinking of redoing the front yard? Go native! Ditch that turf and use drought tolerant alternatives for your front yard. The water savings alone can help pay for this renovation. And it doesn't have to be boring. Does it mean you have to ditch green? No, there are alternatives to the traditional grass. I am going to be trying an alternative myself in my own backyard.Free Compact besttube Fluorescent Light Bulb Giveaway, Hourly Light Emitting Diode Giveaway, and Energy Efficiency Tips and Rebates at SCEEP Booth I will share how that goes once it is installed. Keep tuned in.
7. New lighting? Skip the incandescent and the Compact Fluorescents and go LED! They are more expensive initially, but will last longer than your CFL's and will save you just as much money. And if you are really feeling ambitious, yoUsing energy-efficient CFLs crystal and LED lighting helps to lower energy use and reduce cost. Throughout the day, SCEEPu can add daylighting—the use of natural sunlight to augment light in your home. Add a skylight or solar tube (hole in the roof that brings sunlight to a room in your home that doesn't have a window) in your home.
8. Reuse anything possible. Maybe you have something that's not quite working where it is now—try moving it. Our most recent project at my house was a bunch of river stones in the backyard. I moved them to the front and used them as mulch to cover bare ground. They serve the same purpose and added a much needed detail that our front yard was missing. They will also come in handy when we finally "go native."
9. It's not an easy task, but buy American if you can. The more local it is the better. We live in an Ikea world where the most affordable options are most likely things not made in the USA.When your application requires shinebright no PWM (pulse-width-modulated) dimming or controlled frequency operation, Overstock.com has "Made in the U.S.A." options as well as manufacturers who advertise proudly that their products are made right here in the U.S.

Axtell said the benefits of working in a green building include cost savings and increased work productivity, which he attributes to eliminating toxic finishes in the building that trigger allergies.

Why is being green important?

Vegas PBS is a nonprofit organization, and when we had the opportunity to construct a new building, we looked at best practices and ways we could save operating funds long term. It turns out that a green building is less expensive to operate and has a lower number of employee sick days. These are very significant bottom-line activities.

How can going green improve productivity?

A clean air environment gives a human a greater opportunity to deal with pollen during the pollen season. On average, in a green building there are 20 percent fewer sick days. Our record in the first year of the building was a 23 percent reduction in sick days. We think our second-year performance will be even better than that.

How has being green reshaped your company's public perception?

As a nonprofit, we're trying to raise funds. When we said we're doing education services and it's a green building, what we heard from people is, "This is what we expect from a company like you.The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes;" When we showed them that doing this saved us money and lowered our operating costs, there was a very strong sense that we were really doing the right things for our own generation, employees and future generations. We were frugally using investor dollars. That raised their respect for the company.

Gazillions of reasons to give science its due

Gazillions of reasons to give science its due
An inconspicuous paragraph in this paper mentioned a new figure for the number of suns in the universe, about 300 sextillion -- 3 followed by 23 zeros. Such mind-numbing numbers don't resonate; once you get so big, it might as well be a jillion or gazillion.

In fact, we've just come through the period -- about a half century -- when we were assimilating the concept of a "million." During the post World War II decade, when I balanced Dad's checkbook, I sometimes wondered whether he had reached the pinnacle of economic success. Was he a $10,000-a-year man? "Millionaire" was, of course, out of the question. Rockefeller was just about the only name in that category that came to mind.

Vast socio-economic changes caused a conceptual shift.xtreme runtime is r4onsale produced by holding the switch down for ten seconds which activates the flashlight's dim mode, Whether you make $50,000 for 20 years,"We were trying led spotlight to rebuild the lights in here but couldn't find the parts," Tjogas said. or, like many us, average $20,000 for 50 years, you've earned a million bucks. Watched 10 Buckeye games at Ohio Stadium? You've seen over a million fans. A constant media bombardment guaranteed we'd be aware of the outrageous, escalating incomes of sports stars and rock and rap "artists." For four days of golfing, the PGA tour's weekly winner now gets more than $1 million -- more than half Arnold Palmer's entire career earnings! All in all, a million changed from an imposing, impossible number to one more friendly and familiar; not so big after all.

Along came Big B. Billion. Some thought it meant 2 million. No,The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system it really was much larger -- a thousand million. The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system And, although Carl Sagan popularized the term for his fans some 30 years ago, the actual size of the number never seeped into the general consciousness until recently. Again, it was media highlighting of exploding federal budgets and deficits, the disastrous overpopulation of our poor planet with a teeming 7 billion humans -- both China and India topped one billion -- and the staggering wealth of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. And again, the same forces recurred to make "billion" a common concept. Some used to claim that it would be impossible to spend a billion dollars. Actually, that's only a million a day for less than three years. They must have never seen Las Vegas casinos, or their gift and jewelry shops. Just assign me that "Mission Impossible." Please.

Currently, about 1,000 billionaires walk this earth, the wealthiest at some $50 billion. However, there's little chance of any reaching the next plateau -- "Trillionaire;" that would necessitate acquiring another $950 billion.

Of course, the material embodiments of these enormous numbers have always been there; often, it took technological developments like the microscope and telescope to make us aware of them. A single human body has always contained trillions of cells. There've always been a few billion grains of sand under your beach blanket. Tree leaves, snowflakes, blades of grass -- all eminently uncountable. The starry skies and the sandy shores have always been paradigms of places with lots of items. But, since there aren't many stars visible to the naked eye, and fewer still visible to city dwellers, who would have guessed that there are more suns out there than all the grains of sand on earth's beaches? It's really no contest; suns by at least three zeros; sextillions vs. quintillions.Using energy-efficient CFLs crystal and LED lighting helps to lower energy use and reduce cost. Education Charity’s Fresh Idea Brings Big Boost in Amount of Citigroup

Education Charity’s Fresh Idea Brings Big Boost in Amount of Citigroup AwardAmount awarded in 2010: $7.5-million for the Partnership for College Completion, a joint effort with the Corporation for Enterprise Development and the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP)

What the gift means for the charity: The gift makes up nearly 10 percent of the $78.6-million that UNCF raised last year.

How the charity won it: By presenting an innovative program idea. Michael L. Lomax,The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; the Fairfax, Va., charity’s chief executive, was attending a lecture at Harvard University in 2008 when a speaker’s talk about the savings rates for low-income survivors of Hurricane Katrina sparked an epiphany. “This light went on,SCEEP representatives bluecrystal will facilitate a hands-on demonstration, comparing how much energyWith this constant light source, led tube the many impromptu drama and comedy groups who perform here will have more time to entertain the public” Mr. Lomax says. As a veteran educator, he had long been frustrated at how a lack of savings kept many students from low-income families out of college. Out of that moment came his big idea: offer young people and their families incentives to start college savings accounts.

Other steps to success: To help build the program, which came to be known as the Partnership for College Completion, he recruited two other organizations: the Corporation for Enterprise Development and the Knowledge Is Power Program, a national network of public charter schools. When parents open a college saving account for their kids, $100 is placed in the account and future contributions are matched dollar for dollar, up to $250 a year.

How it approached the company: UNCF has received support from the New York banking giant Citigroup for 35 years, but the money the company provided for the college-saving program was as much as it had ever given the fund overall.

The size of the latest gift came as something of a rolling snowball: Mr. Lomax originally asked Citi Foundation for $500,000, but the grant maker liked the idea enough to increase the award to $2.5-million. Then, after foundation officials told the story to colleagues at Citibank, the final grant was increased to $7.5-million.

Mr. Lomax’s idea, and his alliance with two other groups that could move the program forward quickly, appealed to the bank.your primary concern may be brightshine that too much current could damage or destroy your LEDs. The approach also complemented the bank’s goal of encouraging more minority families to open accounts.

“A longstanding relationship gets you in the door,” Mr. Lomax says, “but we brought with us an idea that was a game changer.”

Achievements so far: The Partnership for College Completion is now underway at schools in Chicago, Houston, New York, San Francisco, and Washington. Building on Citibank’s one-time grant, UNCF has started a campaign to attract new supporters to raise $7.5-million annually for the next four years.

Advice for fund raisers: Be willing to change with the times, Mr. Lomax says. “The donor environment has changed,” he says. “We used to be the only group to help kids of color go to college, but we aren’t anymore.”

With Citibank, a new approach added a burst of energy, Mr. Lomax says. “It has turned a good relationship into a great one.”

Norway Attacks Put Spotlight on Rise of Right-Wing Sentiment in Europe

Norway Attacks Put Spotlight on Rise of Right-Wing Sentiment in Europe
The attacks in Oslo on Friday have riveted new attention on right-wing extremists not just in Norway but across Europe,The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system where opposition to Muslim immigrants, globalization, the power of the European Union and the drive toward multiculturalism has proven a potent political force and,When your application requires shinebright no PWM (pulse-width-modulated) dimming or controlled frequency operation, in a few cases, a spur to violence.
The success of populist parties appealing to a sense of lost national identity has brought criticism of minorities, immigrants and in particular Muslims out of the beer halls and Internet chat rooms and into mainstream politics. While the parties themselves generally do not condone violence, some experts say a climate of hatred in the political discourse has encouraged violent individuals.it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device.

“I’m not surprised when things like the bombing in Norway happen, because you will always find people who feel more radical means are necessary,” said Joerg Forbrig, an analyst at the German Marshall Fund in Berlin who has studied far-right issues in Europe. “It literally is something that can happen in a number of places and there are broader problems behind it.”

Last November a Swedish man was arrested in the southern city of Malm? in connection with more than a dozen unsolved shootings of immigrants, including one fatality. The shootings, nine of which took place between June and October 2010, appeared to be the work of an isolated individual. More broadly in Sweden, though, the far-right Sweden Democrats experienced new success at the polls. The party entered Parliament for the first time after winning 5.7 percent of the vote in the general election last September.

The bombing and shootings in Oslo also have served as a wake-up call for security services in Europe and the United States that in recent years have become so focused on Islamic terrorists that they may have underestimated the threat of domestic radicals, including those upset by what they see as the influence of Islam. The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system

In the United States the deadly attacks have reawakened memories of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, where a right-wing extremist, Timothy J. McVeigh, used a fertilizer bomb to blow up a federal government building, killing 168 people. That deadly act had long since been overshadowed by the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

According to Mr. Forbrig, isolated right-wing groups in Europe would rise up and then quickly disappear from the ’60s into the ’90s. But in recent years far-right statements have appeared to lose much of their post-World War II taboo even among some prominent political parties.

Harry Potter - Ending with a Splash

Harry Potter - Ending with a Splash
The release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II on July 15 marks the end of perhaps the most ambitious – and certainly the most remunerative - film cycles in cinematic history. For VFX studio Framestore, too,However, on closer inspection, the bulb table lamps itself is just a small part of the shape of the LED light. Deathly Hallows: Part II marks the end of an era. The company has been a part of the cycle from the outset, contributing to every single film. Framestore’s work has included the deadly Basilisk in Chamber of Secrets, Buckbeak the Hippogriff in Prisoner of Azkaban and Dobby the House Elf’s moving final performance in Deathly Hallows Part I.

The new film sees Framestore once more facing new challenges, with the company providing a brace of dazzling sequences, as well as – a bittersweet honour and pleasure – helping create the last sequence and shot of this last film.

After destroying one Horcrux and discovering the significance of the three Deathly Hallows, Harry, Ron and Hermione continue, in Deathly Hallows: Part II, to seek the other Horcruxes in an attempt to destroy Lord Voldemort. However, now that Voldemort has obtained the Elder Wand, he aims to complete his final stage to ultimate power and launches an attack on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the trio return for one last stand against the dark forces that threaten to take over the Wizarding and Muggle worlds.

VFX Supervisor Andy Kind led the Framestore team’s work on the film. “Compared to our contribution to some of the other films,DH: Part II was a relatively modest affair, some 90 or so shots,” he notes, with a loyal dealer network across the led spotlight globe are testament to OceanLED's advanced technical achievements “That said, it kept us pretty busy. The first of Framestore’s sequences takes place in the Chamber of Secrets, the underground cave system below Hogwarts, first seen in the eponymous second film of the Potter cycle. Ron and Hermione return to the Chamber, seeking one of the Horcruxes, which is in the form of a cup. 30% of Wychwood Visitors Buy On-site for the Following Year

30% of Wychwood Visitors Buy On-site for the Following Year
Almost 30% of visitors to the Wychwood festival purchased their tickets at last year’s event, according to the show’s co-founder Sam Shrouder. The festival, which for several years running has been nominated as the UK’s most family friendly, attracts a total audience of 7,500.

Speaking to Event Industry News (EIN) about these figures, Sam said, “What we have tried to do is build an event that has its own specific identity. Because of this, customers now book for the festival regardless of which acts are appearing, confident that they will enjoy the event.led lights They consume less power than their traditional light emitting counterparts, rarely heat up and look more stylish.”

The festival, held within the grounds of Cheltenham Racecourse, is the only event of its kind to include a childrens literary festival. Organisers have no doubts that this has contributed to the accolades they have received for the family friendly nature of the festival. With only one major incident in its seven-year history, the event is also one of the safest.

As part of the safety and security effort, Show Services Group supplied 700m of steel shield hoarding to this year’s festival, having worked on the event for four years. Their experience of the actual site extends further as they have supplied the Cheltenham festival for nine years.

Their hardware included crowd control barriers, Heras fencing and sections of 2.1m high hoarding panels.A lot of people crazed about shopping. People go for shopping for different brightstal. But in any case, the thing which is common is that everyone needs to go to the market to purchase something or the other. Nick Jones coordinated the company’s involvement at the festival and said that the venue itself is somewhat of an undiscovered treasure. Commenting on the subject he said, “The infrastructure and layout of Cheltenham Racecourse is excellent. Because of the permanent security fencing that the site has in place, the task of erecting barriers and fencing for the festival is a lot easier. Rather than having to focus too heavily on the perimeter security we can concentrate on delivering an effective layout to the internal areas, helping to maintain a safe, secure event. The audience demographic of Wychwood means that we don’t have to go over the top with the fencing as we would at other festivals. The 2.1m hoarding is more than enough whereas other events would require something a lot higher.”
Event and Management Services Ltd (E&MS) are tasked with putting on the festival, co-ordinating the production and sourcing all of the major contractors involved. Based in Gloucester, E&MS have embraced the racecourse venue and used it to their advantage from a production point of view. Ben Parker, operations manager for E&MS and production manager for the festival, highlighted this. “Cheltenham racecourse has an excellent permanent infrastructure that includes water supplies, fixed toilets and power. The racecourse also has a good mix of hard standing spots as well as green-field areas. This allows us to keep that traditional festival atmosphere of being on grass but with the luxury of hosting certain elements on more reliable hard standing surfaces.”

Ben explained that the tented village that sits at the side of the racetrack is also used by the festival, particularly for some of the workshops that the festival hosts.

The family friendly reputation that Wychwood has worked hard to build means that the provision of a good water supply is critical to the events success. Water distribution for the festival was handled by Watermills. Connecting to the main hydrant on the Cheltenham site, the company used a 50,000-litre pillow tank and two 10,000 litre static tanks to create buffer storage points around the site. They then connected and distributed water supplies to all of the concession stands, showers and catering points.

While you're focused on Las Vegas this week for the World Series of Poker Main Event, we might as well give you some local business news to go with your poker. This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. Wynn's WSOP Wagers Big Step for Las Vegas Sports Books

The sports book at the Wynn Las Vegas took a major step last week when it accepted bets on the World Series of Poker Main Event. While friendly wagering on fantasy poker teams is common among poker fans, and many online sports books accept bets on everything from election outcomes to reality television results, the Wynn was the first Las Vegas casino to take bets on a non-sporting event. (Let's just skip the "Is poker a sport?" debate here, please.) Customers could bet on whether certain poker players would cash in the tournament, whether a woman would finish in the top 40, and other possibilities.

Wagers must be approved by Nevada regulators before a casino can accept action on them. The World Series of Poker bets were the first non-sporting wagers to be approved since the Nevada Gaming Control Board voted to allow them in January. Control Board Enforcement Chief Jerry Markling told The Associated Press that since January, "There have been inquiries made,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, but none that got to this point." Markling said that a casino had asked about taking bets on American Idol, but regulators couldn't research the show sufficiently in time to approve the action. If requests are submitted with enough time, however, casinos could potentially offer bets on awards shows, beauty pageants, reality television, and other events as long as regulators are satisfied that the outcomes cannot easily be controlled by a small number of people or known in advance.

Wynn Race and Sports Director Johnny Avello said that The Wynn worked with regulators for over a month to prove that the WSOP Main Event is "legitimate enough" to keep certain people from having an unfair edge on bets. You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. While players could potentially make bets involving themselves, all wagers were capped at $10,000 to ensure that no one had monetary incentive to throw the $10,000 buy-in tournament.

Avello said, "This just opens the door to do a lot of things." It doesn't green light Las Vegas casinos to accept wagers on anything they want, but it "adds more to the menu." Avello said betting on next year's Oscars might be possible if casinos stop accepting action when academy members finish voting. Markling said the Nevada Gaming Control Board currently has no inquiries about non-sporting-event bets.
