Parking lots get summer facelift

Structural improvements are being made across campus, from major renovations like Gilbert Hall’s to smaller improvements like better parking lot lighting.A complete range of of professional roofingmachine that are redefining laundry systems.

According the NIU’s website, there are 64 major buildings on the main NIU campus in DeKalb. The majority of those buildings are undergoing improvements, much of which is part of the Vision 2020 Initiative set forth by NIU’s former president, John Peters.

One of the biggest improvements being made on campus is the renovation of Gilbert Hall. The building has been completely remodeled, from basement to roof, making it back into a residence hall, set to open this fall. Many of Gilbert’s residents will be visual and performing arts students due to its proximity to Jack Arends Hall and the Music Building.

NIU President Doug Baker said he’s excited for the improvements around campus.Take your home design to the next level of chic with contemporary and ledparlights fixtures. The new Gilbert Hall has a “college feel,” especially in the area outside with patio tables and open grass, he said.

Gilbert Hall was a residence hall until 1995. Since then, it has mostly only housed some offices, said Paul Palian, director of Media and Public Relations.

The newly remodeled residence hall, which is more than half a century old, will now offer a dining hall open to all students, faculty and staff. The Gilbert dining hall will be the only one of the east end of campus, something the university needs, Palian said.

In addition to the new housing option at Gilbert Hall, Grant Residence Hall Tower D will reopen in the fall after undergoing major renovation. The newly renovated tower will have many of the same amenities as the recently remodeled Tower C, like Wi-Fi, moveable furniture and individual temperature controls for each room. Palian said roofs are being improved around campus,The first prototype flatworkironers display containing 3000 LEDs. too.

“They’re actually recycling the reusable parts from other buildings to improve roofs on buildings that really need it,” Palian said.

The Neptune Residence Hall roof will be repaired with slate salvaged from Gilbert Hall’s renovation. The roofs on Zulauf, Montgomery, Jack Arends Hall and the Music Library are all being replaced, as well.

In addition to building improvements, a new parking lot is being constructed at the corner of Garden Road and Lucinda Avenue. Other parking lots around campus are seeing improvements: The parking garage on Normal Road was closed for construction in the beginning of the summer, while parking lot C on Lucinda Avenue is receiving improved lighting.

According to the campus improvements Web page, electrical infrastructure and pedestrian walkways are being updated campuswide, too.

The MLK Commons has seen some unique updates this summer, unlike the others around campus, Palian said.

“You may have seen trucks cutting down trees in the MLK Commons,A polished finish in this solaroutdoorlight for men.” he said. “They had been infested with emerald ash bore bugs, so we took care of that.”

About 70 percent of those improvements will be done this fall. Click on their website www.hmhid.com for more information.

Myth busting as it relates to LED tubes

Fluorescent tubes have dominated commercial illumination in American ceilings for more than 50 years — more than 2.3 billion tubes are installed, according to the US Department of Energy (DOE). That huge potential retrofit market has drawn the interest of many in the solid-state lighting (SSL) space and resulted in a lot of myths related to LED tube technology. Let's bust some of those myths,Solar and electric solarpanelcells systems are easy to install and economical to operate. considering that LED tubes save 50% or more energy over fluorescent tubes.

To date, the hurdles for adoption of LED tube technology fall into three categories: trust, technology, and cost. Let's explore them, in that order.

Many believe that the LED tube industry has not matured to a trustworthy level, but manufacturers have improved thermal management, and installations now range from Fortune 100 companies to leading health care institutions to leading higher-education institutions. Organizations such as the DesignLights Consortium have qualified LED tubes, and warranties have increased to as long as 10We can produce besthidlights to your requirements. years on some LED tubes.generator prepositive design which wind drive the streetlamp without gears.

Meanwhile, some worry that imported LED tubes lack UL or CE marks or other trusted output testing. Simply ask for source documentation and third-party testing data, and look into LED tubes that are made domestically or that meet the International Class A-10 LED Tube Standards.

And then there are those concerned that new LED manufacturers won't be around to support the warranty. An easy way to protect your business is to look for performance-based programs such as savings shares, lighting service contracts,The leader in commercial solaroutdoorlights offering enhanced energy efficiency and innovative features. or LED rental center opportunities. This way you don't fully pay for the technology and aren't chasing the seller if failure occurs.

Let's turn to technology, and the worry that a typical LED tube doesn't give off as much light as its fluorescent counterparts. Fluorescent tubes may have more lumens, but 35% percent of the output is often wasted going up into the fixture. Make sure to look at fixture output side-by-side in foot-candles after a sample LED tube retrofit.

Others worry that an LED tube does not have the same color consistency as a fluorescent tube. Yet the thermal management of many LED tubes has improved to protect the phosphor coating that dictates color temperature. Still others question the quality assurance for LED tubes. The answer is to look for LED tube manufacturers that are ISO 9001:2008 certified.

Then there are those who say LED tubes with external drivers are more difficult to install than internal driver LED tubes. Not so: Installers need to open the cover to the fluorescent ballast in order to install either type of driver system, so the time is roughly identical.

Finally, some contend that the diodes get so hot that they burn out the LED tubes. To combat this, seek out LED tubes with deep-fin, aircraft-grade thermal management and external drivers.

Now let's turn to cost where some argue that specifiers wait to invest in LEDs because of dramatically falling prices. But the cost of waiting, in terms of energy and maintenance,A washerextractor01 is a machine to wash laundry, such as clothing and sheets. is most likely higher than the price drop, particularly for 24/7 illumination areas. At the least, consider a rolling retrofit where you replace fluorescent tubes and ballasts as they fail with new LED tube technology.

There are other cost-related issues that are top of mind for some specifiers. Those who replaced T12 fluorescent tubes with the better T8 tubes and don't want to upgrade again should still calculate ROI, especially for 24/7 areas. Payback is three to five years, and some worry about warranties in that same range; however, as we mentioned, longer warranties are becoming commonplace. Essential improvements to lighting

A section of street lighting on the A4 will be upgraded this summer, as part of Bath & North East Somerset Council's pioneering project to replace conventional street lights with energy-saving LEDs.

The improvements are being made to streetlights which are nearing the end of their working life along a section of the A4 from the Globe roundabout to the far side of the Corston junction.

The essential maintenance work has been carefully scheduled to minimise disruption. It will be carried out over three weeks in the summer holidays – starting on 5th August – when traffic levels are lower than normal. The work will be limited to week days and take place between 9am and 3.30pm to avoid busier periods. All traffic management measures will be removed outside of these periods.

Councillor Caroline Roberts, Cabinet Member for Transport, said,Buy solarpanelsproducts for your headlights or fog lights and enjoy the benefits of xenon headlights. "Bath & North East Somerset Council has carefully planned this essential maintenance work on the A4 to minimise disruption to travel. We thank motorists for their patience while the work is being carried out."

Motorists are advised that there may be some delays while this work is being carried out. The A4 is one of the busiest roads in Bath and North East Somerset and carries in excess of 15,000 vehicle movements a day.

Bath & North East Somerset Council's LED project won the Public Lighting category of the Local Government News Street Design Awards 2013. It involves the replacement of 4,000 conventional street lights with energy saving LED technology,The gardenlight11 is specially designed for wind-solar hybrid street light system. cutting energy use by more than 1.5 million Kilowatt Hours (Kwh). The Council anticipates making savings of 200,000 per year and, because LED technology is less costly to maintain, a further 50,000 per year in the future. We provide ledturninglamp and engraving machines for processing different materials. Carbon emissions will be cut by over 780 tonnes, equivalent to 3% of the Council's total energy consumption.

The technology includes intelligent lighting which adjusts the power used by the lanterns according to the amount of the traffic on the road at any time. LED lights have also replaced conventional lighting on all 108 zebra crossings reducing energy use by another 77,000 Kwh. Similar LED technology is now being considered for residential streets.

There is no guarantee that all of the roads will be done, he said. "Some, all or none may be selected for improvements, depending on the amounts of the bids received," he said.

In other matters, Schaub updated the board on a call he had from a resident of Tessier Road about a street light that was removed at the intersection with Crash Road. Voters approved eliminating 42 of its 54 streetlights at the June town meeting. This particular street light was slated to stay.

Schaub called Central Maine Power Co. and there was confusion over road names, he said. CMP had kept the streetlight on Crash Road by an apartment building instead of removing it. The company will correct the error, he said. Click on their website www.hmhid.com for more information.
