Krishna Patel and AJ Cummings had trouble getting their solar-powered cricket and race car to move under the bright reading lamp, until Lisa Grable, professor at NC State, advised them to move it from the carpet to the table.
“It was getting too much friction down there,” Grable said.
On the smooth surface the tiny light-powered car takes off, and the “cricket” dances around as the solar-powered motor inside vibrates.
Grable says these kids heading into their freshman years at Williams High School could be an important part of the country’s future. Over a quarter of the electrical engineers working in America today are due to retire, “any minute,” Grable said. So there will be a lot of engineering jobs out there, especially with major changes in the design of our electrical grid coming.
Grable says there will be a lot off important work to do, and she would like it if some of those jobs went to some of these students.Our hardworking robots explore the planets and more on the wild frontiers of our ledfoglampss.
To get them started on the path 16 students from Alamance County middle schools attended a one-week Renewable Energy Summer Camp held at the Career and Technical Education Center, the one-year old high school facility where local students can take courses in technical and science subjects from computers to cooking, but it is not where they have home room or from which they graduate.
The camp included hands-on activities like putting together basic circuits with kits, soldering, and building small windmills to power LED lights.The first prototype flatworkironers display containing 3000 LEDs. Students also visited a LEED-certified “green” McDonalds, the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant and the campus of NC State.

Chapel Curry said a teacher steered her toward the camp thanks to her science grades at Hawfields Middle School. She will be starting at Southern Alamance High School in August. Later, she says, she would like to go to nursing school at UNC-Chapel Hill or UNC-Greensboro.
Jorge Pacheco is a camp success story. A rising junior at NC State, he graduated from Graham High School and attended the camp in 2010.
Now Pacheco is one of the college students helping teach, which is his goal. He came into the camp thinking he wanted to be an engineer, but came out thinking he would really like to be a science teacher. He plans to come back to Alamance County when he finishes at NC State.
“I feel like if we get kids exposed to it, they could take that path,” Pacheco said. “This could be a real hotbed for engineering.”

Hyundai i20
You don't have to go too far back in time to notice that interesting technologies and features were the sole fiefdom of expensive cars. The hatchbacks and sedans that the masses could buy, were given the "affordable" treatment, which meant they were basic, drab and pretty much to the point. However, things have changed considerably over the last year or so, because some rather geeky stuff is now coming preloaded on affordable hatchbacks and sedans - the cars that you can buy, without probably needing to sell a few limbs. It is good to see mainstream car makers now thinking along the lines of introducing never before seen features on newer models of their cars, and keeping them within the reach of the potential buyer.
Before the Ford EcoSport came along, the 2013 edition of the Hyundai i20 was possibly the most loaded car, in terms of technology and features. And yes, being an i20 owner (the 2011 edition), the upgrades do look rather significant. And we aren't even considering the visual updates!
The biggest element, when you see an i20 driving towards you during the daytime, would be the Daytime Running Lights. These are the LED strips framing each redesigned fog-lamps on two sides. This feature is very rare in cars under Rs 20lakh,A quality paper cutter or paper autoledbulbser can make your company's presentation stand out. and till now were solely seen on the European luxury sedans. The Infiniti M luxury sedan may not be new in the truest sense of the word — it was last face-lifted way back in 2010, after all — but it is certainly fresh here in South Africa, where Nissan's luxury arm debuted as recently as mid-2012. So what are its chances of upsetting the BMW 5 Series,The first prototype flatworkironers display containing 3000 LEDs. Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Audi A6? Or even making the Lexus GS or Jaguar XF sit up and take notice?
Well, seeing that the vast majority of South Africans who catch a glimpse of the Infiniti M sedan still don't know what it is, I'd venture the chances are very, very slim.Properly placed lampshades can generate electric power anywhere the wind blows steady and strong. Virtually zero, actually, when one factors in the all-important aspect of brand loyalty. But all is not lost. There are potential customers out there who want to actively steer clear of The Popular Choice. Buyers who balk at the notion of following the crowd,The flatworkironerrs specially design for residential houses,boats with batteries back-up. even if it means making the odd sacrifice in the process. Motorists who want to stand out, rather than blend in.
And the Infiniti M certainly does stand out. Its almost outlandish front-end styling can be described as divisive — it has one of those "love it or hate it" faces — thanks to the lengthy, shapely bonnet (with curves that can be appreciated from the driver's seat), gaping trapezoidal grille and sculpted headlights. The cabin is suitably plush, filled as it is will top-notch materials and plenty of gadgets. There are swathes of leather and a fair amount of real wood trim too, lending the cockpit a classy warmth that could seriously stand toe-to-toe with the segment's best. It's truly spacious too, with leg-room on the rear bench a standout feature, and a luggage compartment capable of swallowing some 450 litres.
Where the Infiniti M30d clearly betters its German rivals (and at least matches Lexus), is in the standard equipment department. The options list is, in fact, not a list at all, since there is just one extra for which you may want to pay (metallic paint), and the accessories brochure is also pleasingly short. Of course, you do have the choice of two trim levels and the chance to upgrade either to Premium level.

Solar must collaborate with the electricity networks
The
Solar Trade Association (STA) has called for greater collaboration
between electricity networks and the solar industry if solar is to reach
its full potential in the UK.
The association’s comments follow an STA and European PV Grid -organised seminar Towards a full-scale grid integration of solar PV in the UK, which gathered industry and regulators together to discuss the future demands of a PV-fed grid.
Commenting on the key themes to emerge from the seminar,Our bestspringcleaning is good in quality and competitive in price. Paul Barwell, STA CEO said: “When the STA set up its large scale PV group last year, it immediately identified grid connection and capacity planning as key barriers to deployment.”
In its recent update to the Renewable Energy Roadmap the government forecasted 10GW of solar coming on-stream before constraints are reached in the existing network infrastructure.
“However, we have the potential for much more. Getting the grid ready for full solar integration will require coordination between all stakeholders, and we were delighted to be asked by PV Grid to coordinate the UK’s efforts in bringing together the relevant bodies to develop solutions to the challenges ahead.”
Speakers at the seminar included Ofgem, the Electricity Networks Association, Western Power and a number of solar developers. A key recurring theme highlighted by all of the speakers was the need for further investment in the UK’s aging energy infrastructure in order to fully support the level of deployment the UK solar industry is aiming for.
Distrbution Network Operator (DNO), Western Power recommended that UK lower its voltage limits from 240v to EU levels, a move welcomed by STA PV specialist Ray Noble. He said: “The tangible spirit of collaboration at the event was very encouraging. The solar industry needs to know how we can help the DNOs to help us. Building these relationships, fully understanding the barriers and providing technical solutions is the key.”
A study of over 500 domestic solar PV systems led the DNO to suggest that adopting to the EU voltage limits would lead to a 1.Creating a washerextractor0 out of broken re-used solar cell pieces.5% fall in energy use through voltage reduction of 2.5% across only half of the 230,000 UK ground-mounted distribution transformers, at an average of 150 domestic customers per transformer which would save some 850,000MWh each year.
Noble added: “The case studies from Western Power, who have monitored 525 domestic PV installations to date, provided some very helpful evidence on how to minimise the negative impact of PV on voltage, potentially allowing more PV on to the grid. This is a key finding, and will be welcomed by industry.”
A number of solar developers raised concerns about the accessibility of suitable grid connections, especially for solar farms. Developers of large-scale solar are finding that large areas of the UK’s 33kV network have already gone. Bob Knowles from Empower Community added that the industry is "hitting the limits of DNOs" even at a residential level.
