Pocket projector built for presentations
MY guess is that one day the hole used for a LED light on our mobiles will double as a pretty decent projector and probably a 3D one at that.
That day is some way off for mass-market smartphones, although Samsung has a projector in its Beam smartphone,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. but it has a rather puny six lumen output.
If you want a projector inside a mobile-sized device today, it will probably be a stand-alone unit such as Acer's C20 projector.
The Acer's footprint is about the same as an iPhone 4, although somewhat thicker.
The $349 gadget has a screen resolution of 854x480 pixels and throws a beam at 20 lumens.
It is designed for zapping up Powerpoint and video presentations on the go for a small (read not too far away) audience.In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.
Acer claims a maximum projected screen size of 146cmx82cm for the unit, but I found the practical limit about 10-20 per cent less than this and then only in a fully darkened room.

And although there is a focus dial on the side of the unit, text was quite blurred when the unit was more than 1.5m from a wall, meaning the larger screen sizes at greater distances are OK for watching videos but not throwing up PowerPoint presentations.
The rechargeable battery is good for about an hour and the case has a hole tapped in the bottom for a tripod.
There's a speaker and jacks for AV in and audio out as well a micro USB port with a supplied adapter for reading a USB drive and a micro SD card slot.
It can read and display media files from either of these sources.
It has a VGA cable adapter that slips into the unit's IO port and there's a mini HDMI socket, but unfortunately Acer doesn't provide a mini HDMI cable,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment meaning you will have to pop another $40 or so for the cable.
