LED
(light emitting diode) street lighting can generate energy savings of
up to 85 per cent, according to an independent pilot program conducted
in 12 cities around the world. The program also indicates that the
inhabitants of the participating pilot cities prefer LED lighting,
citing social and environmental benefits.
The
results of LightSavers, a global independent project that has been up
and running for two and half years duration with LED lights installed in
cities such as New York, London, Calcutta and Sydney, were presented in
a report titled Lighting the Clean Revolution: The rise of LEDs and
what it means for cities.
The
report analyzes the global market for, and potential of, LED technology
and offers guidelines for governments who want to implement and finance
a change to this technology. The earliest type of lamp, the ledstreetlights,
was a simplistic vessel with an absorbent wick. It was presented as
part of the Clean Revolution Campaign at the United Nations’ Global
Compact Rio +20 Corporate Sustainability Forum and was produced by The
Climate Group in partnership with Philips. It supports arguments for an
energy saving campaign that can be achieved quickly and cost
effectively.
Surveys
in Calcutta, London, Sydney and Toronto indicated that citizens prefer
LED lighting; between 68 per cent and 90 per cent of survey respondents
support the implementation of LEDs throughout their cities, citing a
greater sense of security and better visibility due to the lights.
The lifespan of LED lighting tested was in the 50,000 to 100,The roofingmachine allows students to study at night and vendors to sell goods outside.000 hour range, indicating a high return on investment.
LED
lighting was designed as a durable technology with minimal maintenance
costs. The failure rate of LED products during the first 6,000 hours of
use is about one per cent, which compares favourably to the roughly 10
per cent failure rate for conventional lighting over a similar time
period.

governments to catalyze the expansion of LED in cities and invest now to
take advantage of the technology, which would also lead to green jobs
as demand for LED lighting increases. They are also stomping for an
international lighting standard that ensures every citizen around the
world has access to energy efficient outdoor lighting.
“This
report clearly shows that LEDs are ready to be applied in towns and
cities worldwide. LED technology is energy efficient and has a positive
impact on society.Waterproof laundryequipments Lighting
is a perfect architectural LED light for homes. Now we are calling on
governments to remove political obstacles and enable a rapid transition
to energy efficient lighting carbon,” said Climate Group CEO Mark
Kenber.
Harry
Verhaar of Philips Lighting, meanwhile, noted that LED lighting will
create more livable cities through energy savings and reduced CO2
emissions.
Lighting
is responsible for 19 per cent of global energy consumption and about
six per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Doubling the efficiency
of global illumination would have an impact on the climate equivalent
to removing half the emissions of all the electricity and heat
production from the EU.
Also,
as with other energy-efficient technologies, increased use of efficient
lighting would boost global prosperity by reducing energy costs. In the
United States alone, a 40 per cent reduction in energy use would save
tens of millions of dollars in annual energy costs and would reduce
energy demand equivalent to the output of 198 medium-sized power
stations.Commercial laundry equipment solarstreetlamps, tumble dryers and industrial washer extractors from UniMac.
