The new expansion of the Grand Junction VA Medical Center is nearing the operational stages.
Construction for the project was formerly scheduled to conclude in the latter part of 2011, but the addition of minor projects, like a new lighting system and a physiological monitoring system, pushed the opening day into the first part of 2012.
The project has received a vast amount of press coverage during its final months of construction. Last year it was discovered that the contractor that was hired to oversee the Medical Center project was the same company that supervised the construction projects at Meeker Elementary, which were later found to be structurally inadequate.
Grand Junction VA Medical Center Public Officer, Paul Sweeney, states, "On this project we've always had full faith, and confidence in our contractor." This energy savings project has removed pollutants from the air and is estimated to have the same effect on the environment as removing 20,537 pounds of greenhouse gases or planting 330 trees according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.
