Reminiscent of traditional horse polo, players substitute wheels for the large animals and use makeshift mallets to get the ball into the opposing team's goal. Despite the uniqueness of the sport, the players have begun to notice that the group is not as homogenous as one might think.
"We just love riding our bikes," said Krysta Whitmore, a regular at the weekly games. "We all have different backgrounds but we come together because of our bikes."
Dylan Wanta, another Provo player at Wednesday's games, agreed.

Quickly accelerating and turning on a dime, players put their cycling skills to the test as they weave their way across the court vying for the ball. Once in proximity of the ball, players wind back and strike the ball with their mallets. This in turn increases the ability of bicyclists to remain safe while riding on roads alongside motorists.

Manning, along with some of the other serious polo players, are hoping to organize a competitive team to play against teams in other cities. The United States has more than 150 bike polo clubs.
