Braun Lighting Solutions of Berlin has worked with Future Lighting Solutions to install LED lighting in the historic Schinkel street lights in the city of Leipzig.
The Schinkel lamps have been a fixture in the city since the industrial revolution in the mid-19th century, and the gas light with its warm atmosphere was characteristic of the city at night.
The conversion to LED technology will increase energy efficiency, durability and lower maintenance costs.

Distributor Future Lighting Solutions helped in the design phase by providing a simulation of the first prototype, implemented at its Lighting Resource Center in Montreal, Canada. Future Lighting Solutions also helped with the selection of electronic lighting components and connectors.
Earlier this fall, Eric Sax, a lighting consultant, implemented a pilot project that used filters to block the glare. The filters, however, caused the lightbulbs to get too hot, and some of them fell off.
The most popular remedy proposed at Wednesday's meeting was to hang an external shield to block the lights. The shield could be tinted Plexiglas, Ken Terry, electrical department head for Walker Parking Consultants, said.

The distributor supplied the Luxeon Rebel LEDs manufactured by Philips Lumileds, ensuring consistency of light output at a colour temperature of 2700K across all the LEDs supplied in the production shipments to Braun Lighting Solutions.
